When I first read it, I was mad. Then I Realized what this should be taken as, is a wake up call. I have been around here longer than most. I know some people around these parts that have done some of the things in the story. I know a lot of others like myself who have stood by quietly and done nothing. Maybe someone is finally going to hold some folks accountable for what has been going on. Maybe the folks writing this are trying to send all of us a message. Sometimes the message is painful, but the truth usually is. Here are a few examples (Which are my opinion only)
Bill Needs to go. Been around to long. Good bean counter but no person to manage. We need to have a multi-member board and if the new guy promises to do that his first year in office he has my vote. Bill bought a pig in a poke and has spent ten times what it would have cost to build a recreation park on a piece of land that was not so steep. Now we have another eye sore cut off mountain to look at. A independent audit of the entire County is long over due.
Magistrate was voted out for many reasons. I would say the story was kind to him.
Cecil needs to stop the Grand Jury games. We all have suspected something for years.
School Board has allowed our school to become a problem. To many members get elected and hire their friends and family. Others have allowed part timers to drain funds from the school that could have been used to hire good teachers who could have helped our kids. Donna should be ashamed for what she did. It's not only against the law it sets a bad example. Gibby is running again. I think we have plenty of his friends family working for the school board already. He was part of the group who let many things slide that should have been handled better. I say no thanks Gibby. I've had kids in the school and know kids there now. It needs a good cleaning from the top down.
The beer can flying out the window of the Fire Chiefs SUV, again, I think they were kind.
The sheriff and his Dad need to stop the baloney. Many of us know the truth. He dropped out of school, he didn't show up for his military duty because he changed his mind after signing up. He did many things during his music career that I think he wishes he didn't do. Instead of denying it why not use it to help others. Go to the learning center and tell the kids working on a GED that they an turn their life around. Nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. We can't change the past so stop with the lies. Some of us are growing very tired of it. We supported you before and we knew the truth. You have not let us down yet. I think you know this is your chance of a lifetime. Lying about your past and trying to cover it up only makes you look like a fool. Use it to help others.
The fair is and has been in a tail spin. Long before the economy turned down the fair was in a nose dive. If any business showed the results the fair has shown, heads would roll and something new would be tried. It's time to close it down or change the management. Einstein said "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
The local paper should be ashamed for how they handle local issues. Being the only newspaper they need to tell the whole story. Not just what someone tell them. To many people get a pass when they should be held accountable for their actions. Just because someone who is in elected office says something it doesn't make it right. Do some investigative reporting.
As for the girl who got her feelings hurt. Sometimes the taste of your own medicine is bitter. If you don't like it, stop asking for it.
As for the local verses move-in thing. I too am guilty of not welcoming some neighbors who bought a home just down the road. Been almost two years and I have not stopped by to welcome them.
Like I said just my opinions. I think Hellawassee is a sad town that I hope does have a happy ending. For people who live there and might move there.

It's pathetic when someone is trying to give a real, valid opinion instead of just bashing everyone and everything. Or attacking someone else's grammar. I think you make a lot of good points. I've heard a lot about the Sheriff's past. And honestly, he COULD use it as an inspiration and something to look up to instead of covering it. It happened, he changed himself, and look where he is now. That's something that a lot of the teenagers and even adults in this town could relate to. I myself am married to a recovering addict. While the things he did when he was addicted are things that some people would find unforgivable, he changed himself and has become the most amazing husband and father I know.

This town could be amazing if people would stop hiding what they have done wrong instead of owning up to it and trying to do better. It's human nature to err. Nobody's perfect. But honesty could get you a lot more than a cover-up. And not even a good cover-up at that.

It is human nature for a person to hide their past, if it can be done, or put a favorable spin on it, if it can't, or blame someone for spreading lies about them when all else fails.

Great post. Heck I wish Bill owned a factory that created 20 jobs. It would 20 more than he has created since he took office.
This place does need a good cleaning. I think the Hellawassee story made some people mad but who cares if it helps expose the problems and gets them fixed. Your thoughts on the Sheriff is right on. What I hate are all the former dope heads turned preachers around here who act like they never did no wrong. If Chris keeps up his act he will be out the door too. People don't like fakes. They forgive but don't forget.

How exactly was she asking for it? If you are refering to the blog- I read it. Never was there mention of name-calling and insulting like she was done. If you are refering to the recent letter written- again- tasteful, with a point and no name calling. If you really feel she "asked for it", you have way bigger issues at being a bigger person than talking to a neighbor.

Yeah, Dumbo, a vertitable Lincolnesque masterpiece, sure to stand beside the Gettysburg Address. Are you by trade a literary critic? Your capitalization of words, peculiar use of quotation marks, and hyperbolic double use of exclamation marks is quite singular.

I looked and all her 2009 blogs have been erased. Gee I wonder why??? Those were the ones talking about not gettng paid on time, no toilet paper in the office and other problems she was having with he boss. Very professional. Very nice. Very tasteful.
You can go in through Google Archives and still get them but it takes some time. They were removed in the last week.

When I came across this thread this evening, I must say, my normally neutral character felt as though I read some unjustice.
Though I agree with most of the posting, one thing I found, in my opinion, not necessarily factual, was in reference to the sheriff. I would like to take an opportunity to state, I have known this man since early adulthood. Everyone has things in their past they may wish never took place. Some learn from it, move on, and take a higher road. The sheriff is just one of these people. In all the times I have been priviledged to be around him, he has never denied his past, attempted to cover his past, or make any kind of excuses. I have witnessed him own his mistakes and use them to help others that may be going down the wrong path.
The other subject, would be in reference to the girl who got her feelings hurt. I have also had the priviledge of knowing this lady since childhood. I have never at any time, seen her without a smile on her face and a kind greeting. Though I have not read her blogs, I feel that is not necessary, for every time I'm in her presence, she is an absolute ray of sunshine. I did read her letter to the editor and some of her stories in her previous paper and will have to say that I never read anything I would take as ugly, rude, or cruel. There was no name calling, belittling, etc. All she did was state her opinion and call out what she facts she was aware of.
This is Barbie Wallters. Have a blessed day.

My apologies for not proof reading. There are a couple typographical and grammer errors. But I doubt it will be imposible to understand what is being said.
