1. Why do you refuse to work with Mrs. Mathis to expand the city-owned sewer system so that industry could build in the county?

2. Please identify by name, one company your appointed industrial development board has sought to locate here during your tenure, excluding the sale of the old Mohawk building (which remains empty) by a board member.

3. Explain the purchase of the land being used to build the park on, specifically the difference between the evaluation and purchase price, and the disbursement of funds at closing. Include in your answer how much has been financed and which account receivable is being used as collateral.

4. Provide your reasoning or logic behind why the county needs a second senior center.

5. How much in the way of financial obligations has the county incurred, including accounts that are unfunded.

6. And finally, please name your most significant accomplishment to date as the sole Commissioner. E.g.- what have you done to improve the quality of life in Towns County?

Folks, answers to these hard questions SHOULD be considered before voting for Kendall again. It's crunch-time! Name-calling is sophomoric, immature and reflects badly not only on the poster but the community.

Kendall is an old man who has mental issues. His staff is incompetent and untruthful at times. There are real issues with accounting in his office. If a complete audit was performed by an outside accounting firm his office would fail miserably. He has done nothing for this County that improves anyone's quality of life, except his own and his little pack of friends. He is a vengeful hateful close minded old man.
Gerdes is a kind old man with no experience running a County. If he didn't surround himself immediately with quality people and hire an experienced County manager within the first two months he would fail miserably. If he does get elected I believe he would try to move the County out of the pool of corruption it has been in.
If we had a quality newspaper they would both be exposed as unqualified candidates. That would open the door for someone who is qualified to run. That is not going to happen.
My vote will go to Gerdes. He is the less of the two evils.

"...Kendall is an old man who has mental issues...."

I'm not an expert on that, but you could be right.

"... His staff is incompetent and untruthful at times...."

I disagree.

"... There are real issues with accounting in his office. If a complete audit was performed by an outside accounting firm his office would fail miserably...."

I TOTALLY AGREE! Plus, Kendall might be indicted if that were to happen, but it won't because the sheriff is part of the political system!

"... He has done nothing for this County that improves anyone's quality of life...."

Again, I totally agree. Isn't it sad, to hold office all those years and have nothing to show for it?

"... Gerdes is a kind old man with no experience running a County. If he didn't surround himself immediately with quality people and hire an experienced County manager within the first two months he would fail miserably...."

A fair assessment of the situation, with a possible solution, and a good one.

"... If he does get elected I believe he would try to move the County out of the pool of corruption it has been in...."

Patronage is what government is all about - everywhere. Nepotism is more common on the state and local levels, and he won't change it.

"... If we had a quality newspaper they would both be exposed as unqualified candidates. That would open the door for someone who is qualified to run. That is not going to happen...."

Perhaps, but they're between a rock and a hard place when it comes to reporting.

Another question worth asking:

Why does Towns County not allow liquor sales by the bottle or by the drink, meaning why will he not put it on a ballot and let us vote on it?

Both Clay County and Union County did, it passed the test and they're getting the tax and tourism benefits that would otherwise come here.

It might be fun to watch Gerdes shimmy and shake his fillings lose and pee in his pants if asked in public where he stands on that topic.

Since you know so much. Why don't you fill everyone as to who does the audit..since you seem to know.. throw out the name of the company.

Time for a change folks. Out with the old guard and in with accountability and openmindedness. We need a commissioner who listens to everyone not just the born and raised locals. This is a huge election, go out and support Steve.

You forgot one question. What is the commissioner doing to secure more jobs for the residents of this county. Turning business away and watching people move from Towns County for employment elsewhere is not acceptable.

Face facts; Towns County has no future and not much of a past. The only things that are keeping it propped up now are the retirees and state welfare (grants)- yet the general population remains apathetic and content with their second-class - hell, third class - status, so long as no one points it out to them!

Kendall has failed, miserably, and I personally don't think Gerdes will be any better, probably worse because he isn't qualified.

Why do county employees not have random drug/alcohol screens?

Will Mr Gerdes institute a policy for this?

I thought with CC being sheriff there are no drugs in this county?

That would be great. However, I think we all know it is a problem here, just as it is almost everywhere.
Really, why do county employees not get drug screened?
Will Mr Gerdes do this?

Why? To have a second home, a place to enjoy the slow pace - or as some say, no pace - for a few days or weeks at a time, before going back to the real world, one that's competitive and demanding, where accomplishment is the name of the game, not merely hand-to-mouth survival, which is all too many here endure.

I'd like to see the quality of life - for everyone - improved. But, if it doesn't happen, so be it.
so you

So you come here because its a better place to be. Yet all you want to do is change things, please leave.

It is NOT a better place, or worse, just different, a place where time stands still but in reality is moving backwards because it can't keep pace. I like it because it gives me a chance to pause and catch my breath.

Change, like it or not, and I could care less if it does or not, is happening, only it's not coming from "outsiders," rather the town is dying from neglect. If that's okay with you, it's okay with me but I'm not going anywhere, so get used to that and find some other "solution" to your problems!
