Why don't you take the $27 million dollars and build a factory in that industrial park so much money went into creating in Potsdam or re-open one in Massena. Let's give people a service they don't need or can't afford to pay for because they don't have a job to begin with. Stop throwing money away and smarten up!

How delightfully 20th century your thinking is, want jobs. Welcome to 2012, where the future is on the internet. The machines are taking over, it is now our bidding to feed them electricity.

Nobody wants old-school manufacturing anymore. It is not cost effective, it pollutes too much and it does not create stable, long-term employment for communities. The only hope for economic development in the north country is for small, cottage-industry type operations linked to the global economy by broadband internet.

Or maybe build a foot bridge that nobody needs. Or build a mutimillion dollar road that will be torn up. We need the internet, or how else would topix stay online.

Because of the grant work, we have created 25 full time positions at Slic, and have employed dozens of other local contractors to assist with the construction of the fiber. Our services have had a positive impact on nearly 2000 residents and hundreds of area businesses that other only had satellite Internet. We have enable dozens of home based businesses to expand, We see people staying in or moving to area because they are now able to work remotely from their homes doing high-tech jobs. Broadband Internet is part of the economic fabric of the country and without it, businesses will not exceed. This will pave the way for new businesses to open in the area and we'll continue to see a positive impact this and similar projects for decades to come.

The real reason their "wiring" the north country is so the feds can get their camera's on the poles up to speed...don't be stupid and think their doing it for no other reason. Look around while your driving the roads of our great county and know that big brother is watching too.

We need broadband on the Lovejoy Road , which just may be the the single road with the most populace in the Town of Oswegatchie . There is also a short dead area on Co. Rt. 6 - Black Lake Road , adjacent to the Lovejoy Rd ; that has no service and really should be served . The Town Barn and Highway Supt. are without broadband service . That is ridiculous in this day and age . The Town Supervisor and Board really dropped the ball on this one and showed high disregard for a whole bunch of taxpaying citizens .

We are currently seeking additional grant funds that would help us expand services in to the Oswegatchie area. I'm not 100% sure of the specific roads, so I don't know if the Lovejoy Road is one of the targeted areas. The best thing you can do is go to www.slic.com/ordernow and enter your information. This will put you in our database and allow us to keep you posted as thing progress.
