This accident is very heart breaking especially to all who know Phil Glade. He was a total gentleman and a sweetheart,he was know by just about every single person in Ogdensburg. He would walk from his apartment in Heuvelton to Ogdensburg and make his rounds every single day,no matter what the weather was,you would always see Phil out enjoying life. I'm sure it was an accident because I could not even imagine someone hitting an innocent man on the side of the road for no reason. He never walked in the road,he was always on the side,so I am wondering how he was hit especially when he would wait and wait for cars to drive by him before he ever crossed a street or road. Many people in Ogdensburg gave him a ride, picked him up and brought him where he needed to go and he was always good for a conversation. I am thinking of putting a cross up at the scene of where he was hit,so that he will always be remembered, not that anyone will ever forget "Popeye". Phil,I am sorry this happened to you,I'm sure it wasn't written in the stars that you would be hit that night, but I am glad that you are with your mother now and you're safe in heaven and I know you'll be watching over all of us down here because you made an impact on all of our lives whether you knew it or not. You most definitely will be missed dearly my old friend, but will never, ever be forgotten!!! God bless you Phil and I hope you know that losing you was a loss to everyone that knew you. May you rest in peace! You can know catch up on al the lost time with your old friends and family,I'm sure they were happy to meet you at the pearly gates....rest in peace!

i aplogize for anything i may have said that upset anyone, that wasnt my intention. the comment wasnt left to anyone inparticular,it was to phil directly.it is my way of saying good bye to him...if that is wrong, then i am sorry that i have upset you,but i didnt mean to. i have known him for many years and since i was unable to say goodbye this is my way of doing it....so if it upsets you,it really shouldnt...i also eft him something on my facebook page as well. anyone that knew him should not have one single bad thing to say unless of course they are complete and uttyer morons, but if they do say something then just ignore it because his family, friends and people that knew him know that there is nothing anyone can say that could change the way we thought of him. thats al...take it as you want...but its about phil, not you or anyone else in this town. but i see you were the first to comment back to my comment and i only left it a few minutes ago.

That's the way topix works. You say that only a moron would have something negative to say,I agree a hundred percent. But you came to a place where morons wait to prey on innocent people. I only questioned why you would post it on topix forum. Perhaps you are new and did not know this. I hope that they would show respect, but truly I know better. I did not know your friend or you but I do send my condolences to all involved and to you for trying to have your friend be remembered. God Bless.

This man was a wonderful man...I always gave him a ride to where he needed to get to...He will be missed by everyone who knew him, and he was always willing to have a conversation to anyone that would talk with him or listen to him...A sweet man who would never hurt anyone...May you RIP Phil, and know that you will be missed by all...

SatansAngel, should have never said what he said, he just couldn't leave it alone. Phil was a very good person, and I do not believe that anyone had anything bad to say, about him. That man got all over the north country. I hope that I have that much spunk going on in my life, when I get to be that age. To the person who made the very first comment, That was a very heartfelt comment, and wonderfully worded. You did not offend anybody, in fact you have said what most of us a feeling. To bad we couldn't put that on his headstone, so thank you for that. The idea of putting up a cross at the spot where this happened is a very good idea. But, please remember to put it far enough back so that it doesn't cause another accident. I have a feeling quite a few people would stop and pay thier respects. That was a very good idea, do it.

Well said (saw him all over). I too saw him on many occcasions and wondered who he was and where he was from. I never gave him a ride. Knowing what I know now I would have stopped and gave him a ride. You can tell that the first posting on this person was indeed based on the thoughts of a very caring person. Anybody with even one ounce of respect/compassion should stop before saying anything negative about this poor guy.

Thank you to all who eft the nice comments back to me regarding the first comment in which I left about Phil. Apparently, you all felt/feel the same way about him as I did and still do. Satansangel,I am not a newby to Topix,I have read and seen alot of stupidness on this site and you are right about someone probably making an inconsiderate comment, but in case you didn't know,Topix was originated to let people in the area know what is going on such as a jamboree, yard sale, dance at the local AmVets, birthdays, things of that nature, not to bash other other people, but of course some people decided to use it as a way to say things about others without having to use their real name. But if you go to other areas in other states you wil actually see that Topix is used for what it was meant for. To the rest of you that left me a comment,I appreciate everything you said to me and for your comments about Phil as well.He wasn't a relative of mine, but I have known him since I was just a kid at Jimmy Mills bar "The Place" in Ogdensburg and gave him many rides and to the person that stated they hope they had enough energy when they are his age,I'm with you on that because he was a strong one and had more ambition in his body than most 16 years olds! Again...thank you Phil, you will be missed terribly, but we will never forget you and there will be a cross out on the highway for you so people will never forget you! God bless!!

psssstt....just a little FYI..deceased people don't get on topix. Perhaps a journal or diary would be a more appropriate means for you to get it out.

I wil mourn the loss of Phil the I want to and I will let anyone and everyone who reads this exactly how I felt.I am not stupid "wondering" I know deceased people don't read Topix, but this was my way of letting other people know how I felt and what kind of man that I thought he was. I don't need a journal or a diary...for once this site wasn't used to start rumors, gossip or to bash someone else. I will not bother responding to any more comments because I have said all I have to say regarding Phil. I will put out a cross there for his rememberance and let everyone know that no matter what he will never be forgotten. But "wondering" thank you for giving me the F.Y.I. not that I needed it or anything, but thanks I am entitled to say my piece and to say goodbye anyway I want to and if that bothers anyone, then I'm sorry, but this is how I vent. God bless you Phil, rest in peace and when you run into my grandpa tell him I love and miss him and will someday see him soon!!

well, it was kinda funny when you said you were speaking 'directly to Phil'...ya know...on the computer...you were sending him a message.
it's amusing to me that people want others to see their inner-most thoughts...just seems like a need for attention more than anything else.

i THINK citizen of ogdensburg said it well. This is sad. He was a man that never did harm to anyone, It will seem strange not seeing him here. That man was in great shape for his age. So sad he had to go this way. I'm sure regardless the driver must feel really bad. Sad for all.

There was nothing "funny" about the post at all. Grow up, Leave it alone, and let people greive in their own way.

Seems to me like you are trying to get a little attention. I think that you are upset that Phil is getting more attention then you are. To the person who was thinking about putting up the cross, after you have put the cross up, would you mind posting that it is in fact up. I would love to leave some flowers for him, as well as a certifacate for a six pack of beer, to go.
