Hummm... blaming the cops, yea, that sounds right. I guess they are the scumm breaking into houses and selling drugs. How about blaming the thieves who can't get a job due to lack of an education, or the dopers who prefer to steal to supply their habits. I blame the parents of these people as well as the court system who releases them. The cops can arrest these low lifes every day but the courts just give them a slap on the hand and send them back out.I guess you would rather blame the guys who have to put their lives on the line daily protecting your streets than the ones who are responsible.

We have more federal housing than most other towns around per capita... we keep allowing more "low income" housing to be built, we allow half way houses to be built in our city limits... There are good people who live in the federal and low income housing, but there are also a ton of sh@* bums. Definitely need new leadership to hold the police accountable and incentives for the people in herrin to take pride in making their properties more presentable. Btw has anyone else noticed the amount of satellite dishes on the low income housing? Guess its just the inner tax payer in me that noticed.

fight crime with better police patrols. No officer should ever be setting at the station unless needed there for paperwork, meeting a complaint, lunch break or a supervisor's request. Next assign patrol to locations of the high crime. Get involved in the neighborhoods. Make arrest for all crimes no matter how small.

Not sure about the day but drive by the Herrin Police Department at night and all the cops are parked there. Just guessing but I doubt much crime happens there... No it happens all over town so get off your butts and patrol. Quit watching your tv and patrol our neighborhoods. We pay your salary and were getting screwed.

The cops wouldn't do this if the chief didn't allow it so maybe we need to fire the chief and get someone in there that can manage the officers and get something done.

Marion divides the their town up into zones and has cops patrolling their zones 24/7. I think it's called a deterrent. Why isn't that happening in Herrin?

Fire the chief and the mayor to for allowing this. I'm tired of having my stuff stolen and my cars broken into.

Someone needs to do something because things are out of control. I got my car broke into this past weekend. 3rd time in past year. Maybe they should scrap the police department and pay the county to patrol. Probably save a lot of money and actually improve things. At least they don't sit around watching tv. Get rid of all of them including the police chief. In a couple of years they start fresh with cops that want to work and make a difference.

Hardly, criminals are criminals but cops being paid to sit around and watch tv aren't doing anything to help the situation.

Put em in jail or run them out of town. Either way; just do something!!!!!!!!!!

The cops do not do shit around here but give people speeding tickets and DUI's. People aee constantly getting their houses broken in to and the cops are too busy driving around. HERRIN/ENERGY cops do NOTHING! What the hell are we even paying them for? To sit on their ass all day and night? Its sad that peoples houses arebt even safe in broad daylight cause the cops are too busy watchin tv or doing "speed traps" I agree maybe a new police chief.

Lazy, I agree but you can't lump Herrin and energy cops together. Herrin is a dump full of crime and I never hear of any crime in energy. I don't like their speed traps but at least I see them out and around doing something.

I think it's complete bullshit that due to the mutual aid agreement with herrin pd that energy has speed traps set up on rt 13 which is nowhere near their village limits.

I didn't know they did but you say "trap" in a way that suggests they made you speed to catch you. Don't speed and it wouldn't matter.

But really what does rt13 have to do with Herrin crime anyway?

I agree. It may be legal for them to be there but it is unethical and an abuse of power in many peoples eyes.

Now the energy chief is suing the herrin police chief. Ladd is complaining about not getting enough part time hours of work with herrin. What a jerk.
