Is Berra's Tavern still open? We use to call that whole area Skid Row. From White Electric down past Four Corners Cafe to the Eagles was not the place for a kid. Chevy's is or was pretty much a dive too. The Illinois Cafe was for the more upper scale drunks and "Hurley's Show Bar" outside of Johnson City was a biggie too.

I drank many a brew at Berras in the 70's and back then it was a pretty decent place..I left Southern Illinois about 1976 and seldom return.

Did that on purpose, wondered if the moron (not you) would be able to catch it, and of course in vivid Technicolor they proved just how dumb they really are.. You haven't missed a thing.. same old stuff, just older. Four Corners Cafe isn't there any longer

I also remember going to the CC Club and getting a mug and a ham sandwich for fifty cents..probably was Stag on draft.
I read the SI online every day and agree on the same stuff just older. Here is a good link for keeping track of people:

My end of town was the Pigeon Inn.. big "secret society" sort of place.. Really just a bunch of Italians that knew each other and decided to build their own bar to get away from the wife and kids. All of them had mafia names like "fruit cake" and "banjo"..that sort of stuff...
I guess it's still there..my bro-in-law was a member last I knew..

I actually grew up around Freeman Spur and the hot spots were Joe Tallutos place and Pistols. Joe's was a pretty decent place back in the early 70's but Pistol's was a little wilder with the players out of Stl and Chicago in there..I would be the only white kid in the place but I knew the owners and never had a problem...fun times as a kid but don't miss the bar scene and haven't been to one in decades.
