1946 Unsolved Franklin County murders

Recent comments were posted concerning the murders of the 34 year old Buckner waitress from Christopher (Mary Pasternak) and the 19 year Louis Null from Zeigler. The Buckner police chief Clyde Brown was arrested for the girls murder but later cut free due to the lack of evidence against him. No one was ever arrested for the Null murder and since the chief was in jail at the time, one of his brothers became the top suspect. Nothing ever came of either case because State Attorney and Sheriff Clarence Smothers were deathly afraid of the Brown family and the guy who followed Smothers as Sheriff said, "He didn't give a damn who killed who, I'm not gonna get mixed up in either one of them!" Thus adding to the century old saying that if you want to do a murder and get away with it, then do it in Franklin County. Anyone want to add or subtract from this post would be more than welcome to give an opinion or comment.

Louis Null just happens to be my great uncle, what a coincidence that my first time ever coming to this website I happen to stumble across this. My mother's maiden name is Null. I wish i had every bit of information my grandpa has dug up about this case so i could share it.
