Animals in shelter are homeless, not hopeless - Salt Lake Tribune

There are 1 comment on the www.sltrib.com story from Dec 11, 2008, titled Animals in shelter are homeless, not hopeless - Salt Lake Tribune. In it, www.sltrib.com reports that:

For the past five years Jeremy Palmer of North Salt Lake has visited the Salt Lake Country Animal Services, 511 W. 3900 South, to play with the animals. Only once has he adopted a pet there -- an iguana.

"This is like my sanctuary," he said. "There's something about the animals that calms me down. Today one of them got my heart."

Last July the entire shelter community captured the heart of Bluffdale resident Shawni Larrabee when she became the new division director. "I already had a passion for animals when I came here, but now I have more of an appreciation for the animals and the care they're given."

The shelter serves unincorporated Salt Lake counties, Salt Lake, Herriman and the University of Utah campus. The shelter has fifty employees who Larrabee says "know their stuff." They keep facility clean, and the animals nourished, exercised and feeling loved. An occasional goat, ferret, pig, snake, gerbil or goldfish sometimes vie for their attention, too.

Hi. I have a best friend, who is sadly in poor health and quite miserable I fear. I am unemployed and will be homeless within 2 weeks as well so I cannot afford the veterinary care she is so in need of. I've checked into euthanasia but, I cannot afford that either. I am devastated because she has been such a loyal companion to me over the past 8 years, seeing me through Breast Cancer and other life traumas through which her love saw me through- as nothing else would have. She deserves so much better and she deserves to be free of the suffering I fear she is experiencing at this time...though of course she never complains. I love her and I am hoping that perhaps you may be able to assist me or refer me to someone who can help me to end her suffering humanely and lovingly despite my current financial means. My situation is certainly NOT her fault and it pains me that she must be punished further. If you can help me or refer me to someone who can, I appreciate you immensely, If not, God Bless you anyway.
I hope to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Celeste C.
