I would like to know a name and possibly number of the guys reopening the dragstrip. I drove by the other day, it looks like a first class operation. Also, when will it open?

The organization is cars for kids. I don't know when it will open but hopefully this spring.
|

I heard it might only be running flag start racing and not have a starting tree.

does anyone for sure know if the dragstrip will try and put timers up for any events?

Jerry Hall is from Paragould, AR and raced at
George Rays dragstrip since the early sixties. I heard his name mentioned this week as one of those involved with the track. Bobby U. is a good guy, as are all the guys involved with Cars for Kids. |

Is this the old drag strip north of the levee on Rt. 34, we're talking about?
If so, wow...didn't realize that this was going on. I remember back in the '70s and early '80s hearing the roaring engines as the did their thing. And that was from about 3 miles away. |

I live in Paducah. Anyone have directions on how to get to the drag strip? Would love to come. They were going to reopen the one here but something stopped it . What days and times is it opened too. thanks:)

Sure, first of all, cross the river into Illinois..obviously, on I-24. Take Exit 1. Make a right turn at the end of the off ramp. And then across from the little gas station there, make a left onto Rt. 145. This goes directly to Harrisburg. In fact the road ends in Harrisburg. No then. Once in Harriburg (the new Super Wal Mart is right there as you come into town), you'll wanna make a right turn at the intersection of Rt. 145 and Rt 45. Go straight through the light at Long John's (on the left) and Hucks (on the right).(You can see the light once you turn onto Rt. 45. Then at the next light, which is, oh about a mile further, make a left onto Rt. 13. This goes up to the Square. And then at the light on the Square, make a right on Rt. 34 (actually Rt. 145 and Rt. 34 are the same highway down to Mitchellsville that you passed on the way up). Take Rt. 34 (N. Main) outside of town (through the levee) and then the dragstrip is just north of the levee on the left. Or you could you could make a left at that first light,(by Long John's) and run over 2 blocks to S. Main (by a drive-in bank with a bright obnoxious lighted marquee sign) and make a right there and then out to the strip. Six on one hand, half a dozen on the other. |
