I am still shocked that Smooth Jazz 105.9 has been replaced with an Oldies format! Oldies are for OLD PEOPLE! Smooth Jazz was always a relaxing and welcome escape from the stressful daily routine of living in DC. We will especially miss the Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch. The station owners should seriously consider bringing Smooth Jazz back, OR ELSE!

YOU! I am totally upset that SMOOTH Jazz 105.9 is gone. Friday morning I think it was I was listening to the smooth jazz normal station and by time I got off work some old country sounding man is on the radio talking about 105.9 new oldies station. I'm like WHAT THE HECK IS THIS!!!I listen to 105.9 Smooth Jazz everyday and evening while driving home from work. I DON'T LIKE THIS NEW STATION! Don't get me wrong I love certain oldy songs but the station has got to go. They or who ever owns the station needs to bring back SMOOTH JAZZ 105.9. I will not listen to that station again until they bring back the SMOOTH JAZZ!!! I THOUGHT TO MYSELF MAYBE IT MOVED TO A NEW STATION...WELL I HAVE YET TO FIND IT!!! PLEASE HELP SOMEBODY TO BRING BACK THE SMOOTH JAZZ 105.9 STATION.

Subject: WJZW-FM Website * Thanks and Sadness*

Smooth Jazz & Citadel Broadcasting

To all it may concern,
I am so very sad and disheartened to have learned learn that there is no more Smooth Jazz 105.9 in DC metro area making up my days and nights. There is not other station to go to. I think one has to move to Seattle, WA to get another jazz station like the beloved Smooth Jazz 1059. Even the smooth jazz station in Orlando (affiliate?) closed and format is now ‘Oldies.”
Smooth Jazz never gets old! E-V-E-R. DJs may think that there are not as many new players or new songs but so what. It works and will always work. You can’t beat smooth jazz anytime, all the time, forever. Please come back!
Adding insult to the bruising, the new format is “oldies”– but only if your repertoire extends back to the 60s. I guess you are “old” IF and when “oldies” means circa 1960 and after. Nothing from before that time.
If that isn’t enough I had not changed my 105.9 station and turned on the radio after 3/1/08 to hear the new format “canned” v. hosted. That changed this week. Tuning in this AM I heard they brought in (back) Don Imus to the station. God help us.
I regret that as a loyal listener I did NOT buy any of the Smooth Jazz CDs. I will desperately be looking for them NOW, to duplicate and play for years to come. No hosts were as good as you all the DJs on Smooth Jazz 105.9 and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for all the years they were with me.
A very loyal listener,

As someone posted, click the link to the petition link above and sign your name. You can also leave comments, which Smooth Jazz's loyal listener fans have been voicing with the class and style that's always been associated with this classy radio station. We're all very upset and I've been forwarding the link to everyone in my address book.

I can remember listening to the radio in the early 60s and 70's as the DJ interrupted songs and screamed in your ears trying for attention.
Finally, the 80s Melvin Lindsey and the Quiet Storm appeared on the horizon foretelling musical magic to yet unfold. I finally retired and found my muse 105.9 Smooth Jazz. The sensation of total relaxation and introspection provided by 105.9 Staff was inspirational. To quote Loretta Lynn as a great performer you must be one of the
following 1)first; 2)extremely good; 3) unique.
I believe that 105.9 scored in all three categories. As one lone person crying in the wilderness...Bring back my Smooth Jazz!!!!

I signed the petition. Not many signatures. Have you tried advertising in the local papers? I know there are more people upset over this than 150.

Please bring smooth Jazz back. This was the only station I listened to while I was in my car. I was very upset when I realized that it was gone. I thought my son had changed the station and I was mad at him.

Smooth Jazz 105.9 was the best radio station to listen to. It had a smooth soft sound that eased the soul; even the jazz funk songs were pleasing to the ear. I have attended the Capital Jazz fest for 8 consecutive years, attended the Smooth Jazz 105.9 functions at the Marriott in Greenbelt Maryland and listen to Smooth Jazz 105.9 live at work. What is up? Bring the Jazz back! Al Santos, Tom Grooms, Vanniece Johnson, Jay Lang, and Even Ramsay Lewis, I MISS YOU! Bring my jazz back people!

Smooth Jazz was the best. I am not sure how many new listeners they gained by switching but they lost one... me!

Oldies are covered by so many other station in one way or another. Jazz is not! We need Smooth Jazz while sitting in gridlock traffic.

You gotta be kidding me - JAZZ? Go to a coffee shop! Those Oldies for old people ARE the base for your jazz, did you know that? R&B is actually Rhythm and Blues, blues/oldies = same thing....so after they killed 100.3, the real oldies, someone had to replace it! I am SO glad they killed the smoooooooth jazz, and now we can finally groove and rock...enjoy it, open up your mind, man!!

SmoothJazz was my morning and night station. It was the "only" relaxing station out there. It got me through rush hour traffic and it put me to bed at night. None of the others can "ever" match up to them! Thank goodness I have their SmoothJazz CD's for continued sanity. Try heading to "Rebel" country with your new "Oldies" station -- it's not for me!

Try listening to 104.3. I know it's a Baltimore station, but those in the metropolitan area can get it. For others in VA, seems like the only other alternative is 96.3

I'm shocked and dismayed! I truly miss "Smooth Jazz" and the various host's. I refuse too listen to the oldies...oldies get on my nerves...There's nothing smooth or soothing about the oldies. I nor many of my friends can not work to them, drive to work or home and listen to them, relax or unwind to them. I changed all my radios to other stations. "Bring Back Smooth Jazz". Thanks!

I too miss and was shocked to find that my favorite radio station, 105.9 had abruptly been taken off the air. While I was at the Berks Jazz Festival in Pennsylvania this weekend, I learned - for reasons beyond my understanding - that Smooth Jazz is loosing it audience. My friends and I, we remain loyal fans and continue to hope to hear a new smooth Jazz station played on the airwaves soon.
