This is a stark and jarring reminder why I willfully left the false religion of Christianity, and embraced the salvation filled religion of Islam!

THIS is all it took for you to leave the only true salvation for a FALSE religion that's is responsible for attacks and murders worldwide? A religion that promises 70 virgins if you kill those that don't believe what you do? I definitely see your logic.

Islam is very beautiful religion. You can have many wives, a man will have pleasure every night. In my country if the woman does not sumbit to the man in everyway we can kill her or take her to the townquare to stone her. Allah will bless us more. I encourage all men to convert to this wonderful religion.

What does it matter the women? They are not as mighty or worthy as men. Men are blessed by Allah.

What really happened is Jimmy and Jason had been at the school the week before blaring music that was not Christian, telling the youth students about what they did and how it was cool, and then when they did come to church, and Pastor went over to talk to them, they began cussing Pastor out, and THAT'S why he asked them to leave.

Kyle, we're you there? Did you personally witness them "cursing out Pastor". I wasn't there but I personally spoke with Pastor and they did not curse at him. You are spreading lies as many others are on here on both sides of this issue. None of this ever should have been Discussed. Let it and the untruths on both side die.

You're all a bunch of superstitious morons. I can't believe the credence you give to what's obviously a fable.

First off I have known the Pastor for years and I doubt that this really happened. Second I was and still am a member of Temple's youth-group and I had no memory of this happening. The pastor frequently talks about forgiveness and teaches us that no sin is too bad to be forgiven so I seriously doubt that this happened. I am also friends with many of the deacon's sons, and I can tell you that they are all men of God including Pastor. If you really do feel that this happened than you should visit agian and maybe it will clerify what really happened. That same year I was called to the missionfield, so it was a really great year for me and I payed close attention to the authority figures in my life. That included Pastor. I can tell you over and over again that Pastor is a great man and I'm sure that you must have mixed up the story because I know Pastor and I know that he would not do that to anyone, and I'm sorry if you believe that this really happened but there is no chance that this is the whole story.

you cannot allow folks to flaunt their sin, and if these folks were really serious about serving the Lord they would not have been in a bar...period.
Sounds to me like this a spoiled rotten family who can't really see their kids are wrong, whether their soldiers or they mow lawns, who cares take responsibility, this church is very loving, the Pastor preaches the Bible....if you want Joel Osteen type preaching stay home and watch TV.
One day you will need a Pastor in a great time of need, and I have no doubt this dear Pastor would be there for you.
Move on, you will never hurt the work of the Lord with your whining.
Sounds to me like you should be a little more grateful for those who are serving your country. What, exactly, are you doing to help other people except for decrying the actions of others. Move on and keep your un-Christian like comments to yourself.

Islam protects the men from wicked women. Few women are good, they must be kept watch of closely and not trusted. They are evil from beginning of time. US is in bad shape because of too many women involved in life. Life is for man to run, only they know the right way to do things.

Wow! I had no idea all this is because of women! Dang! If we can get rid of all of them then this will be a perfect world! Oh, except that there will be no more children born...but it will be run by wise Islamic men!

Just some questions.... Who protects men from evil men? Even Islam teaches man has been evil since the beginning of time....

I cannot think of a more depressing and hate filled religion than Islam.

God makes the laws to protect men. It says women must obey the man. Man was pure until women sinned and produced evil children. Women's job is to obey and satisfy man. If she listen it is our job to pay bills and protect them. It is a good exchange when the woman is not too evil of the heart.

[QUOTE Let it and the untruths on both side die.
<quoted text>[/QUOTE]

I don't know anything about what happened, but at least there is an admission of unthruths (ie lies) on both sides.

Although we loved the Pastor's semons, we found the core members very clicqish. We live a stone's throw from one of the deacons, yet he has yet to initiate a conversation with us, even after we have approached him numerous times. Seems like either you are "in" or you are "out".

While the church's public "Our beliefs" on the web page are accurate and align with scripture, it took us several months to understand the unwritten beliefs.... Men only talk to men and women to women, women should wear dresses......is a King James only church......Only hymns and no contemporary music (we noticed 1-2 slipped by). We even noticed that the core women would not talk to my wife...unless she addressed them first.

Its a great place to go to Sunday morning, but you'd better find another place to go to be authentic... There is no place for the weak or wounded here.....

Dear "Christianity,"

I read your post, and while I'm aware that it was written in 2009, I wanted to comment. First, know that your son and his buddy are always welcome at Faith Baptist Church http://believegrowchange.org , where I am the pastor. My church is in Vienna only 12-15 miles away from Temple. We have often had Marines (and one Navy guy) attend our services since I became the pastor in 2008. I officiated the wedding for one of them, after my wife led his girlfriend to the Lord.

I'm familiar with that ministry and that pastor. I have weekly contact with people from that church as well. While I respect their efforts to serve God and maintain high standards, there are times when they become legalistic (sadly, something most churches are guilty of from time to time) over issues like Translation, dress, and standards of "holiness," like abstaining from alcohol. I don't always agree with them, but I appreciate that they are trying to serve and obey God, even if imperfectly.(I think we all have some logs to remove as well.)

Regarding alcohol, the Bible makes no prohibition against the substance. As you can read for yourself, the only biblical data indicates an approval on alcohol (Jesus' water to wine miracle, Paul's prescription for Timothy, repeated references to win in relationship to blessing, the last supper's menu). Only drunkenness is condemned. There's a lot of liberty between "have a little wine for your stomach's sake" and "be not drunk with wine." A godly pastor will address the abuses of alcohol without making a legalistic judgement on those who consume it.

The story you describe indicates that a clear biblical instruction was not followed. In fact, I'm preaching this week on what it means to be your brother's keeper, and will discuss how we are supposed to lovingly correct those who claim to be brothers and sin. If, for the purpose of discussion, drinking a beer were a sin, then the proper response is not to escort those who sin from the church. If it were, we'd have only empty pews and an empty pulpit!

Instead, Galatians 6 is the guideline: restore the fallen brother meekly. Confront sin (not violations of my personal standards), teach right, encourage the weak. Only when a person repeatedly refuses to listen to instruction and keeps holding on to his sin, should he be removed from a church. And that should be done "by the majority" (see Paul's dealings with the unrepentant brother in 1 and 2 Corinthians. Praise God he later repented, and he was restored to the church.

That's the ultimate goal--restoring the sinning brother to obedience and fellowship with the church/body of Christ. Any actions not designed to work toward that objective are not just unbiblical, they're ANTI-biblical.

I encourage you to now act correctly in the area where you were offended. By this I mean, don't escort that pastor and that church out of your life because of their disobedience to Scripture. If you see your brother in a fault, seek to restore him (Galatians 6); go and tell him his fault in private (Matthew 18). Prevent this from happening to the next person by helping Temple Baptist and its pastor to change for good. And if you're unwilling to be biblical in this area, then you should also stop thinking about or talking about the offence against your son. We all have to remove our own logs first so that we can see clearly to remove the specks from our brothers.

I'm hopeful, that coming into this discussion so late, things are already resolved. Perhaps you could share that story with us, so that we could rejoice with you.

In Christ's Love
David

I stumbled across this old posting while trying to find email contact information for the Temple Baptist Church. Yesterday while canvassing my cul-de-sac in Sterling they brought a grey hound sized bus down my street. That's not ok. We have a pretty narrow street when cars are parked on both sides, as there were yesterday evening when the bus appeared.

I encourage everyone reading this post to pick up a copy of Richard Dawkins' book "The God Delusion" and read it from cover to cover. There aren't any deities and never have been. The natural state of humanity is non-theism. We only come to believe in deities when we are indoctrinated to believe, usually as a child by adults we trusted. Break the shackles of what ever cult that indoctrinated you and start living life.

Great post Vienna Pastor! We will drop by some Sunday!

I also wanted to share this post. I stumbled upon it as I struggled while I was at Temple Baptist and really helped me realize that although there were issues at the church, some of these things were issues with me as well.

Temple Baptist church is a cult group that has had a toxic effect on my social and intellectual life.
How is Temple a cult? Two simple reasons; 1). The members are shut off from the outside world (the real world) and 2). The beliefs are based on fear (the fear of going to a fictional place called hell).
The youth group at this church is nothing more than a child indoctrination camp riddled with child abuse, sexism, and homophobia. Youth pastors stand at the pulpit waving their fists and filling the minds of teens with fear, guilt, and shame. They love to make young people feel ashamed of their bodies and their natural sexual tendencies. Grown men here are so afraid of sex they won't even say the word "sex". Grown men stand at a pulpit and teach young girls to feel ashamed of their bodies and instruct them on how to dress "modestly" while the boys can pretty much wear whatever they want. The natural body parts of a women are seen as "evil" and "sinful",(pretty sick isn't it?) Women are seen as second class citizens who are only worthy to marry a man on two conditions; if they are an active member of the cult and if they are virgins. They also use their Bibles to justify installing fear and hatred of homosexuals into the minds of the youth. To make young people so afraid and ashamed is nothing less than child abuse.
Temple is filled with synthetic kindness. There are fake smiles and fake kindness all around. They welcome their weak victims with open arms. But the minute you do something they don't approve of you will be stabbed in the back and shunned as if you never existed. The only accept you as a friend on the most superficial level.
I left this church after being in youth group for a few years. After I left I decided to leave christianity behind and I felt a huge burden lifted from my shoulders. I feel happier now than I ever did as church goer. I feel free from all the guilt and shame they attempted to install into my young, fragile mind. The only thing I am sad about is how after I left not one member of the church as ever contacted me. That's when I realized that the members of this cult claim to be "separate" from the "world" are no different and are probably worse than people "of the world".
P.S. The earth is not 6000 years old, use some common sense!
