I was at the beach late yesterday around 5:30 and witnessed a drowning. What happened to the man and why is it not in the news warning people to be careful during these daily rip tides

I was there, too. It was sad but you have to be careful with the rip tides.

It was such a sad sight yesterday. The rescue team searched for over 20 minutes for this man. Finally I believe the diver recovered him but he had passed away. My heart goes out to his family & friends for this loss.
The only article I found about this was that they found a 17 year old male who was on life support this morning.
For those of you out there who swim in the ocean & surf, please be very careful esp. when there are rip tides. It is very dangerous.

He passed away today in the company of family and friends.
Please pray for him and his family.

I saw it while visiting with a team of 17 year old here to play basketball, we were able to talk about it a bunch a pretty sobering experieince what were the details so many were out there with no problems? I heard he was surfing and then just went out to swim there wer lots of people around

Obviously he wasn't a strong swimmer. When facing a Rip current/tide: Swim parallel to shore, don't try to swim with it or freak out. Also, if you suck at swimming, meaning if you can't do 100 yards of freestyle in less than 1:40, don't go try to be a hero....

He was a friend of a friend that we love very much. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. He was just a child. God Bless him and his.
We were there the day before and stayed out of the water because it was dangerous just to look at it. The life gaurds had run in and rescued about 7 people! THESE LIFE GAURDS ARE young ANGELS AND WE THANK THEM FOR THEIR GREAT SWIMMING AND HAWKEYES..... THEY WATCH OVER US! May GOD bless them and give them peace because they tried real hard to help this young man!

Johnny, you're a jackass.. Thats my little brother. He wasn't surfing, just swimming. He got caught in a wave that claimed his life and that's it

That is so sad!
I was surfing with a friend(first timer) yesterday and with an instructor for him.
I'm an excellent swimmer and an avg surfer.
I was watching them both, while I was surfing and i noticed that my friend was already so deep, so i got closer to check out what is going on, and I notice he was drowning, because of the strong rip current, and the huge waves! he couldn't even move, and the huge waves kept slamming him over and over!
I gave my board to the instructor, cause he couldn't swim to shore, and helped my friend to catch a wave all the way to the shore, only the third time he cought the wave, he slipped from the long broad the first two tries, getting more panicked, drinking more water!(just laying on it)
The waves were so high, that it was hard to lay on the board, and we were so deep!
Once he got out, I started to swim to shore, and luckily I got out, with my last powers! Completely exhausted!
Yesterday, was a nightmare! People shouldn't be allowed to enter the water in a day like yesterday, if they are not amazing swimmers and great surfers!
Being just an amazing swimmer yesterday was not enough! The ocean was a mass!!!
Even if u r an amazing swimmer, the ocean yesterday, wasn't the place for u!
I am so sorry for your lost! I'm sure he loved the ocean! And as a surfer and an ocean lover! I know that there is nothing my parents, or anyone else could have done to keep me away from it.
I had an idea, to put pulls every 50-100 feet on the shore with a destress button, that submit a distress signal to the lifeguard vehicle. Cause by the time the lifeguard passed by us, it was already after this entire catastrophe was over!
Yesterday was the scariest day of my life, I'm so happy it needed the way it did for us! And at the same time, so sad it ended the way it did for you!
I am so sorry for ur lost! I would love to set up a group to develop some kind of a tool, to prevent/reduce those type of accidents in the future!
You can find my contact details at: www.eyalbiber.com
I am ready to set up a group, and solve this problem!
