There are 2 comments on the story from Apr 6, 2013, titled AQMD Approves Rule Requiring Disclosure of Fracking Operations. In it, reports that:

The board of the the South Coast Air Quality Management District voted unanimously Friday to force oil and gas companies to be more transparent when they engage in hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.

People living near oil and gas production wells in Wilmington, Baldwin Hills, and Montebello told regulators Friday that monitoring fracking would be important for their health and safety.

Apparently, this was a closely fought battle, with testimony from concerned citizens and the perfidious conduct of the industry representatives swaying the SCAQMD board into making a 8 - 0 vote supporting the collecting of information on actual emissions.

Now that employees of a PXP subsidiary have admitted that Frack Packing has taken place in the Hills, this rule will help Montebello residents determine if this form of fracking causes increased air pollution in their residential neighborhoods, especially the La Merced and Racquet Mountain areas.

That assumes, of course, that PXP will actually follow the rule, something they have shown reticence in doing in the past as demonstrated by the $75,000 fine they paid for not following the law by not reporting an oil spill a few years ago.

thank you SCAQMD for wanting to get to the truth and for your true concerns of air quality. Now we can hopefully finally find the cause of air pollution in the Montebello Hills Oil Field, and the cause for all the cancers, asthma, and all other illnesses in the La Merced community.
