Man killed while waiting for bus in Redondo Beach ID'd

A man in a wheelchair who was killed at a bus stop in Redondo Beach when a car jumped the curb and hit him has been identified as 58-year-old Richard Alkire.

Redondo used to average only one traffic fatality per year. Their Traffic Unit consisted of a sergeant, traffic accident investigator, and 5 motor officers. Since City Manager Bill Workman cut the Police Department and traffic officers were shifted back to patrol (no sergeant, only 2 working motor officers), there have been 8 fatalities in the last year and a half.

Coincidence? I think not!
