hippies never take showers they stink like old socks
That's simply untrue. I was there back in the 50s and 60s and the gang I ran with were clean, either from showering/bathing, or from body-surfing all day long.

If you were around "hippies" who you found to be malodorous, they must have been from somewhere else, NOT the South Bay.

The Flying Jib was triangle like with an outdoor part. Redondo. Beautiful girls there. I lived on VanHorne. Rode bike (custom cheap Spyder bike of course) down to the Strand via 2nd or 3rd, by the 99 cent breakfast place owned by foreigners. good breakfasts. Strand and 26th was our spot. Drinking Spanada and smoking. Then moved to Catalina Apts on Catalina when there was only a field of flowers down to the Redondo pier & water with a Castagnolas Restaurant there. Walked to the Fox Theater. Then moved to an old building studio apt on the Strand above Perrys Pizza. Square slices. Very good. Got a job managing Platterpuss Records in MB. In the morning (fresh ocean air!) I'd ride on the Strand up to MB Blvd, then push bike up to the store. At night after closing, I'd pedal back down the Strand and sometimes pull over and buy a doobie for 50 cents from guys hanging out against the wall, smoke it while cruising home. Maybe stop at this old funky nautical-themed bar right on the Strand (don't remember name) for a beer. Lived with a knockout chick from Manhattan Beach. It was beautiful. Bought a custom pair of sandals from Greekos when it was near Pier on Hermosa that lasted 20 years. It was mostly small, neat houses, cool young people, sexy girls, smoke & mellow parties here & there, surfers, beach bonfires at night, Poppytrail Pottery was there in MB up from the record shop. It was laid back and not real expensive, just perfect life. So righteous.
