I will say this though If you could get a storefront available, ready to move in $500-$1000 depending on SQ. FT. somewhere between Water and 2nd. The more SQ/F the better. I would very seriously consider renting/leasing it. I counted 8 empty storefronts, not counting the bakery or pizza shop that I haven't figured out if their open or not. If you have anything or can get something in the pipeline for jan. 2012.(with specifics)(and cooperative ownership) let me know how to contact you.
That would be great to get another downtown business. Email me at [email protected] with your name and a number and I will return the same with my daily email address, really don't want to use that here and potentially get flooded with stuff if folks disagree with my opinions. Many of the buildings there are owned by some interesting folks but one that MVI and the Progress fund is on the verge of getting is the old GC Murphy building. We can work with those groups and DWNI to see what we can make happen. I will explain some of my ideas also.

Beechwood Pizza was closed for a week but they reopened. the Bakery on Main is not open.

I'm all for getting people into this town..but how can you build something for people to come to and not have adequate parking? Both riverside and Jacks are for sale..why not buy them and turn them into parking? Jacks for parking would makes sense for all the events held in Vine St. park..and Riverside just makes sense. What about road repair? What about the 2 parks that have nothing for the kids? There are all things I think are more important first then worry about building simerals square.

DWNI did the work get funding to do what they wanted. You too can get a group together and create a not for profit a d go after the same grants. I have not checked jacks or riverside for price but what I have seen in the past is the business building owners want a million for something that is worth 50 grand. So the Boro will not buy something like that. I will dig and see what I can find on those two as both would be something good for the Boro to buy potentially. What roads are bad? Please call the boro and ask for Randy and see what he can do. If you are talking about N Water St, then we are out of luck. From there to Giant Eagle has been deemed a state road so the Boro cannot fix it even if we wanted to. But any others please call and let them know. Or come to a council meeting and let everyone know. I think we can do better with parks also and a new 5 year plan will hopefully address the park issues but it is a process and takes time.

Positive: Do you honestly think that West Newton will listen?

Since I have some say so in the matter I would like to think yes. I will take these ideas and see where they are are on the list of items. Biggest issue right now is there is no real written plan in place. Randy should have an idea if those streets are on the outlook for the future. Best bet is to still call down and just ask the question. Randy makes the suggestions of what should be paved based on inout from the public. So the more input the better off he is in making recommendations to council. Liquid fuels funds are saved and big paving projects are done every two years. The 5 year plan will help us use some of the surplus to make some things better. But again it is a full council that has to make that decision.

The park looks great!!! The new sign is holding up nicely. Maybe we could use some of the grant money to build a little roof over it.
