Pedophiles, bank robbers, gang bangers, purse snatchers and meth labs (not to mention the raw sewage released into the Missouri River each year) are scarier to me than ANY (possible) mountain lion sighting. How many people do YOU know that have been injured by mountain lions? How many people do YOU know that have been injured by war, pollution, neighbor dogs, criminals, illegal drugs, politicians and deer?

Well--very true---but if you lived near this area, wouldn't it be really nice--if you knew there was this preditor near your back yard--when your 5 year old is in your backyard playing on the swing--or your dog/cat is out??? I sure would. I think we need to appreciate all the news we have the ability to obtain these days, and the work that goes into the stories to keep the public aware. It is up to you and me what and how much we want to listen to.

I live within 20 miles of Blair. People need to acknowledge we are part of nature, not masters of it. People in Colorado and California live with these spectacular animals. More people are killed each year by Labrador Retrievers than have been killed by mountain lions in the last 200 years. And, certainly, more people are killed or injured by deer/car collisions due to the over population of deer, than suffer any damage by mountain lions.

I have seen a quick glipse crossing the road one night... They are around but you will never see them and I would never report the sighting. I know a witch hunt would follow! predators are natures way of controlling populations, diseased animals and we just need to coexist!

thomaha, thank-you for your enlightened opinion. Some day, I hope America doesn't have to look back, regretfully, on their behavior of decimating the natural world. The Indians co-existed with nature as part of it. White people would be wise to follow their example.

. Lisa you are correct, Labrador Retrievers are much more dangerous than mountain lions. I think everyone who has a lab as a pet should release it to the wild and adopt a mountain lion instead. The world will then be a much safer place.

Hoo-boy are you misinformed. The indians did no such thing. They stayed in one place until the local resources were depleted and they were knee-deep in their own garbage and then they moved on.

If people don't want large, dangerous predators living nearby, it's perfectly acceptable to extirpate them. There is no shortage of mountain lions.

Lee, it's a fact. Don't give me your ignorance. "Ho-Hum", I don't know from whence your knowledge cometh, but but my informants tell me, the "Indians" were here for thousands of years before they were intruded upon by the Euros. And, thus, they obviously knew how to live WITH nature. They were drinking from the Missouri River with no ill consequences, they revered their "natural resources", their "garbage" was bio-degradable". They had no Mountain Dew Bottles, no cellophane food wrappers to throw out. And, lastly, because of the inability of white people to get along with nature, we have cancer, pollution, etc.,

It's a fact that cancer occurs naturally as well.
BTW, I noticed you feel the need to play the race card. Intellectual laziness.

So I assume you live in a house you built by yourself from items you found in nature. A log house? A tent made from deer skin? I assume you don't wear make-up and all your clothes are made from the animals you kill by yourself and you use all the bones, skins, and meat from the animals you kill. People like you make me laugh. You are so bi-polar.

Omaha had several reports last year , even found one that was hit on the interstate. They come down here because Nebraska is supposed to be a safe haven state ( ;

They'll leave when they're done.

She typed as she took her last drink of Pepsi from the aluminum can, snuffed out her cigarette, and went to sit on the throne she cleaned last Sunday with the commercial cleaning product she picked up at WalMart.. Hypocrisy at its best!

Wow, these comments get so off track, anyways I thought I would add something. I think its great to have such a diverse number of animals living in our area. I don't think anyone living near a mountain lion should worry too much about getting attacked, like most animals they try and stay as far away from humans as posible.

It wasn't more than a couple of months ago I was camping @ Ponca State Park in Nebraska and seen a mountain lion walk through the campground no more than 75yards from my tent. I have to admit I was a little scared at first but I'm sure these animals are going to attack smaller animals.

I agree with almost everything Lisa Scmidt wrote, she was just using different examples to prove her point. By the way last I heard there are more than 5,000 pit bulls living in Omaha/metro area that should be more disheartning than a lone mountain lion.

Why should you be disheartened about pit bulls? Or are you one of those people that blames the breed and not the owner? That's what Lisa Schmidt would do too.

O.K., Nebraskan72, I built my Indian house out of the scalps of Scandinavian Womens, and I don't NEED make-up. Jds, I don't drink "pepsi" , or smoke, and I clean with either vinegar, water, or lemon & water. I DO shop at Walmart. I DON'T know how to avoid China. I don't consider "pit bulls" to be a "breed". As an exhibitor of A.K.C. Borzoi, I feel "pit bulls?" are an insult to "man's best friend" in general. However, it is not the fault of the dog, but the fault of the "breeder". And I have NO FEAR of Mountain Lions, Wolves, Or, "God" forbid, Injuns!!!

ho hum, The "Indians" did stay in their own area until the Gov't., backed by the white parasite, depleted their local resources. And as for "knee deep in their own garbage" you'll have to explain to me what their garbage could have been. Plastic grocery sacks? Empty motor oil bottles? What? And, though this may be beyond your expertise, where does corporate America dump it's excrement? In Gretna? Elkhorn?
