Is this the old Palmer House? What a nice place that used to be.Good food, rooms upstairs if you got a little tippsy. Then the wonderful state of New York decided it was cheaper to relocate the families of prison inmates instead of busing them from down state. Took the Palmer House and turned it into a welfare hotel. I HATE THIS STATE.

Where the hell did you hear that from? I've been in Herkimer all of my life, the Winston Arms has always been privately owned and the owners are the only ones who let it go down hill, a little at a time. Just never put any money back into the building and allowed the lowlifes in. That started back in the early 80's.

First of all if you read my comment I asked if that was the old Palmer House. I was also born and raised in Herkimer and lived there before you were born. I do not make idle gossip, what I said was fact and you can check it out.

Over time there may have been people who lived there that had relatives in prison, but the State never moved them there. The county paid rent for people in the Winston Arms, not the state. New York State does not pay for families to move near prisoners. Families also have to pay for their own transportation for visits. One reason people moved to Herkimer County is that it was and is much easier to get assistance here than in Oneida County. I would agree if you said that by the county paying rent for drunks and druggies in the building, it was ruined. How would you know that you lived in herkimer before I was born? You'd need to be really old.

Winston Arms is now a major eyesore. Look up top at all the broken and open windows. They got tons of roaches, and all kind of vermin in there. The cops are always there, people used to put their boomboxes in the window and blare their music out onto the street. I don't know how the owners are getting away with it. They allow the lowest of the low there. It is an embarrassment to Herkimer.

Winston Arms-home sweet home to many on the sex offender registry. The Family Watchdog site updates me quite often on who has moved in. But why not? Sex offenders fit right in with the Main St ambiance.

oh yeah, well, how come I heard loud music and kids drinking alcohol on that night? I know there was a party there, because I lived at the winston arms at that time (I was livin there from 2004 to the last day of october 2010). and one of the guys told me to stop by and party with him and his friends. plus there was a birthday party for one of his female friends there too as well--it was on a saturday night between november 2009 and january 2010.
