Just came across the position listed on Craigslist in the "Jobs" section for Utica/Rome/Valley. It's a supervisory position, requires experience and pays a WHOPPING houry rate of $9.00/hr!!! A question for the owners of Burrito Jonz: How do you expect anyone out there to survive on $9.00 an hour?? Especially with the amount an employee is left with after taxes?? For a "Supervisor" position?? An even bigger question would be how do you really trust a manager or supervisor with the money in the business's cash register when you're paying that person so little and you can't be around all of the time because you have another location in Utica to worry about??? If this place ever does open for business I don't see it staying open for very long. You most likely are going
to be robbed by your employees right and left: supplies going out the back door, employees not charging their family or friends for food, various hands dipping into your register(s)pocketing your cash when you're not around. If you can't be there all of the time and can't pay your supervisors any more than $9.00 an hour, don't expect things to go well at your new location. Might as well not even open the place, cheapskate!

If the schools merge the wages will still be the same at the burrito place but I will make double the salary.

Why are you people so F-ing negative?? At least the guy is willing to try to run a successful business here in JERKimer. How many people can honestly say that they TRIED to open and maintain a small business here, especially on a Main Street that is suffering from so much urban decay, vacancies and the effects of a contracting economy during the last four years??

I don't believe this place will ever open. Not that it really matters one way or another. Except of course the loan will never be repaid.

$9.00 per hour for a "manager" isn't so great, but you have to consider that it's Herkimer and this might be a great job for a dependable college student. The pay is really more than that though when you consider all the taxes the employer must pay for FICA, disability, workers' comp, etc. You are right, the employee won't be left with much after deducting for child support and paying for the welfare of all the other people who refuse to get a job and love living off the system. Why you bashing this business before the doors are even open? Just give them a chance. You Herkimer critics just need to get a clue as to how the real world works.

There are still people willing to work for that $9 an hour & remember that's the starting pay-I'm sure as business picks up the pay will increase! Enough with the negative posts-give the guy a chance! BTW-it's not unusual for new businesses to get these grants or loans.I'm sure the business will do fine-affordable for everyone-something different than the ton of pizza places in this area-I'm sure it will be a hit with the college students!

You are missing the point. We ALL admire someone who starts a business ... with his own capital. But here we MAY have a case where someone talked the local politicians into spending $30,000 of TAXPAYER job-creation money to create a $9 an hour job???? Is that the best use of taxpayer funds? Is that COMMON-SENSE???

I saw the owner stuffing cash in his pocket after leaving the mayors office. I bet the owner of burrito jonz is good friends with the mayor or nick macri.

The only way main street comes back is to get the TRASH off the street. And I don't mean garbage bags. The scum needs to go back in the gutter where they belong.

He told me minimum wage for one month to see if I am qualified and motivated. Then $10 if all goes well. It's up to me and my work ethic. So stop whining. If you work hard a boss will reward you. I'm only 19 but my parents taught me to get ahead in life you must work hard. I hope I get the job.

Gee that's funny Burrito Jonz is supposed to open "soon" in Herkimer but a look at craigslist shows no job listings for the alleged Main St burrito shack
