Herkimer, N.Y.(WKTV)- Voters in the Village of Herkimerare hitting the polls Tuesday to decide whether to dissolve their village into the Town of Herkimer. Polls close at 9 p.m.
The historic village located in Herkimer County could soon be history.
It all started with a village petition by a former county legislator and current resident, Alex Shields, who rallied 100 people to back his theory that consolidating the village and the town would reduce expenses.
Village Mayor Howdy Doodie said the 152 year old village should be kept as is, " We have a water, sewer, library, we have a fire department cemetery and do all things the town does not do. There is no savings and if you take DPW, we have smaller equipment, we plow and take care of our streets and pick up leaves and all those things and the town doesn't do."
Frohne also believes that the money Shields claims will be saved by consolidating is inaccurate, " They claim over $200,000 dollars would be saved. That's not true. If I get rid of all the people...I came up with around $80,000 dollars."
He believes consolidation means a loss of local government and identity.
The vote is on Tuesday October, 15th. The majority rules, meaning if the number of registered voters say "yes," to dissolving the village then within 180 days the village is mandated to hand over all of their assets. I think this would be a great idea voiced most local shoppers coming out of wal mart with their ebt cards. I was axed the questions and said yes this will save me money
As soon as we get results, we'll be sure to share them right here on WKTV.com .

I'm not sure the village will survive regardless, according to the state. The village has spent about $400,000 already fighting the village and are about to spend another $200,000 in the next appeal.
Hell, we're paying for the school and everything else, what's another few hundred out of our pockets every year?

It was in the paper, the village is in danger of being taken over by the state.
And the village has spent hundreds of thousands in legal fees over that polluted land. Too stupid.

You are so funny and so misinformed. Must be you have an axe to grind. Must be one of the boys that want that jail at all costs. I understand the village hasn't spent 1/10 of what the county has spent on the P&C sight. Somebody ought to tell the county they LOST1

Keep checking asshool. That 1/10th has nothing to do with legal fees.
The village is fkin you. Spending hundreds, yes hundreds of thousands on legal fees to save a polluted property on rt.28 that will never offer any return. Brilliant.
Yeah, don't take a Million for it, spend a half million to keep it. 1.5 swing.
The county has attorney's on retainer. Ain't that a bitch?

This article is about Richfield Springs, NY. The troll who started this thread inserted the word "Herkimer" into the first line.
That being said, I would vote yes to dissolving the Village of Herkimer.
