you might want to read that article a little closer. the college didn't say they couldn't afford it. the college doesn't pay for it, they never have. the college goes out and gets donations from local businesses. what the college was saying in that article, is that they are just to lazy to make the phone calls this year to organize funding. what they're saying is that the almost $2,000,000 we,(the county taxpayers) give the college every year, isn't worth the phone calls it takes to give us something in return.

Its not the college's responsibility to provide entertainment for the community. Education is their mission. It costs the taxpayer(through the college)$20,000 grand a year to provide these EXTRA's. We cant afford it anymore. Everyone else benefitted off the colleges(taxpayers) expense. All of the non profits go up on the hill and use it for their fundraising event. The college(taxpayer) gets nothing other than the bill. They receive very little donations to fund this event. Kudo's to the college to cut expense.

We got rid of the party and fireworks, now if we could just get rid of the entire college. This area is decrepit enough and that place does nothing but sink us even deeper. Benefit to the area my ass. Somebody needs to dig up the video from their Halloween party up there.

Just another in a long succession of losses and setbacks that have steadily turned this once-decent Valley into the charmless hellhole that it is.

Main Street Herkimer is an utter unmitigated disaster. AAA office closed up. Albany Street Cafe closed up. No jobs. No fun. Corrupt and inept politicians. A trailer trash tobacco store going up in the center of Mohawk.

East Side steakhouse -- CLOSED. West Side Saloon -- CLOSED. Herkimer Telegram -- SUCKS.

Oh well, at least we have Crazy Otto Empire Diner building the World's Largest Jell-O Penis to look forward to.

It's The Telegram not The Herkimer Telegram. Never was The Herkimer Telegram, it was The Evening Telegram. You're right, it sucks. And wait until see what they are going to do next. Cancel now.

What are they going to do next?

I notice they haven't replaced David Robinson, who left in like December. Probably got a better paying job as a part-time Fastrac cashier.

So, they have one less reporter = less local news for the readers. They fill the space with Utica stories that ran a day earlier in the O-D. Telegram is run by two RAG HAGS.

They fill the space with Utica stories, because Utica has stories. Herkimer does not have anything going on!

You are right!!! What's mext. It is sad. Look at the turn out for the fireworks. People really enjoyed it. If some businesses would all come together and donate some money maybe it will happen. As far as The Evening Telegram...it is the worst it has ever been. Spelling mistakes, wrong names, dates, duplicates, etc.!!! The papermen can't even deliver it right!!! What a disgrace this valley has become. SAD

Murray gets a $30k raise. Others get big raises. Take a percentage and the fireworks are paid for. Instead they spin it as saving money and saving jobs from layoffs.

In case you are several years behind the times, both the Telegram and the OD have shared stories because they are both owned by Gatehouse Media. Some stories run in one paper first then in the other later, and visa versa. The Little Falls paper also is owned by Gatehouse. Gee, this has only been going on for about three years now.

If you believe that anyone's job was saved because of this, you're crazy. From what I read, it was a $20,000 event and the Alumni Association sponsored it at $7500. I'm sure no one at that college is making $12,500/year.

I am fully aware of the Gatehouse OD-Telegram-Times arrangement, and I see nothing in my post that suggested I wasn't. My point was mainly that the Telegram/Times has been operating for the past two months with one reporter less than it used to have, after Robinson left.

So, is that going to be a permanent arrangement? If so, it means less local news and by local I mean MIHLFF.*

The incidence of Utica O-D news reprints (YESTERDAY'S NEWS TOMORROW) in the Smelegram has certainly increased since Robinson left.

I'm not sure why "taxpayer" is in parentheses behind the word college in your post. They do not pay taxes on any of there properties (including the president's house) just HARC and the rest of the non-profits around here. That's why only 45%of the properties pay taxes for 100% of the village.
