4 million is a lot of money but it isn't when you have a large school. It won't take long to eat that up after the union buy-ups and extra transportation that more than doubles. Would they merge without the incentive aid? NO! Why? because everything would cost more and you are less efficient. After the money starts to run out we're back to cutting again. Then of course they will close the Jarvis building and move everything to Ilion to save more money and Mohawk's home values plummet further with no school and the neighborhood around the abandoned Jarvis building will be bad as the building will sit vacant and deteriorate. This after 20 million has been spent on it over the past few years.
In the late 1990s, Ilion had about 2,100 students. With declining enrollment the combined district would have around 2,400 students. Chances are, with declining enrollment the combined district could be the same size as Ilion used to be in about 10yrs. What's the point? We will have a much more adequately funded system AND NOT A LARGE SCHOOL.

Common sense wins the day. You don't not need to be a business genius to be an effective board member.
If you are a respected person of the community and a respected business person you'd have equal or a better shot at being elected as anyone else.
You however would not be elected.
how wrong you are we need to run it like a business and yes I am very well respected in this community...numbers are everything and some podunk like yourself has no clue...

It is funny that herkimer is on their last leg struggling to get by. Why don't the moron parents put the kids out by the school to Pickett again like they did the day that it was time to vote. Pretty soon you will have no sports and some unemployed teachers. Good job herkimer on being uneducated assholes

I think you missed something.

Because i heard Cuomo has "proposed" I haven't heard approved. The plan is up only 0.4 % from last year. We have already figured in the 4% to the budget. That whopping .4% is not enough. Also how will that money be distributed? Maybe we'll get lucky and get 1% additional because we're retarded, maybe.
are you sure

Even though Ilion is the most financially sound district I understand the added aid will be given first to districts with the lowest average family income. That puts Ilion at the top of the list followed by Mohawk, Frankfort and lastly Herkimer.

The good news never ends.

It was stated: "People lose their houses for not paying taxes. Elderly and disabled people, people on fixed incomes, pull up stakes from a beloved town and move away because their pension and Social Security checks canít keep pace with the increase in property taxes."

Is that what actually happened in T-burg? Did elderly and the disabled lose their homes and Iím wondering did Tangorra pocket any cash? Because none of that happened in Ilion. Ilion's taxes are the lowest around and the school is in the best financial shape of any school in the area. Also what little that was saved over time went unnoticed until the state gave poor schools the shaft. I believe Tangorra and the board saw the writing on the wall and save our asses, save our kids. Other schools in the valley were hit hard and needed to make deep cuts. Ilion has had no layoffs and remains solid making only minor adjustments in program.

It appears 99% of the population in Ilion applaud Tangorra and 1% bitch because they have an ax to grind.

Iím wondering, whatís the penalty for holding more money than allow? It looks like zero penalty, right?

I teach in the Herkimer district and now I'm not going to receive my Comso grant. Nothing Herkimer will do will ever match the free money I would have received in my Cosmo payday.

Tell us all exactly what your raise was going to be (if we merged). Tell us who the newly elected board members were going to be (if we merged). After all board members approve all expenditures.

While you're at it I need a horse in the 3rd.

AngryPayday Teacher- First of all you're not a
teacher, and second, you're full of B.S. No one
knows what teachers' raises might have been if
the merger had passed, maybe no raise at all.
Also, there would be a new BOE and a new teachers'
contract which could call for teachers to pay
more for their benefits and include no raise.
P.S. What's a "Comso" grant?
