Remington's property tax assessment is less than 1% of the tax base. Remington's school taxes is about $50,000 in a district with a $40 million budget. It's not an issue. Herkimer wishes they had a 50k problem.
Also, when a property owner does not pay their school taxes the school district is reimbursed by the county. If they remain unpaid, the county bears that burden, not the school. So, Herkimer County pays whether the districts are merged or not. So it's not an issue.
We have the least amount of programs/opportunity to hold a young persons interest. 30 out of a 100 drop out of herkimer yearly.
When those 30 losers melt back into the community every year it creates a major financial problem for all of us and it's a vicious cycle. Herkimer’s drop out rate is the worst in the valley and Herkimer has been put on notice by the state.
In the late 1990s, Ilion had about 2,100 students. With declining enrollment the combined district would have around 2,400 students. Chances are, with declining enrollment the combined district could be the same size as Ilion used to be in about 10yrs. What's the point? We will have a much more adequately funded system.

What happens to Ilions tax base when 1300 hundred laid off employees can't pay their school taxes? Or is that just tiny portion of a 40 million dollar budget as well?

Are you under the impression the Arm's only employees people that live in Ilion?

The Arms has more employees that reside in Herkimer than Ilion.

When a property owner does not pay school taxes the school district is reimbursed by the county and the amount is added to the county taxes. The county is on the hook, not the school. So, Herkimer County pays whether the districts are merged or not. The Arms is not an issue.

Yeah I think I heard Frankfort laughing last month when they cancelled spring sports.

Herkimer is rolling on the floor laughing over their upcoming academic and sport cuts. I think they started laughing right after their first budget meeting with Tutty. You know the meeting they walked into with big ideas and walk out with their finger in their ass.

You are so full of it. Remington wasn't in the conversation a year ago. Most have no idea what Remington pays in tax or that the county not the school system is on the hook for unpaid tax.

The kids in Herkimer and Frankfort got hosed. We can't change that.

With that in mind let us not forget about the ignorant and selfish adults that put their kids and mine in this situation.
