How dare you beg for money in the valley and not even help here. Where are the shelters in Herkimer County? None that is correct none to lazy to come down from Utica. I will never ever give you people a penny ever again. Valley people stand with me and not support them. F the Red Cross

You are so right. The Red Cross sure didn't do much (if anything) while the Herkimer shooting was going on and today they were AWOL again. By the way, how about the Salvation Army? I know they are on Prospect Street and had their own flooding issues to deal with, but shouldn't they have been out in the community? Strange how they were both absent and unaccounted for.

Our family has taken two other families whose homes are deemed unsafe. It is a little tight but they needed a place to stay. I am saddened that these organizations are not in the forefront to help. I will make sure not support these organizations.

Yes Owie we know that. All the more reason they should have been more active. I did read on the OD website that the Salvation Army was to provide dinner last night. Not sure if that news ever got out.

I do believe the Salvation Army was flooded. Where was the Red Cross??? To busy sitting up in Utica counting our donation money from the valley.

Time to fill the coffers again. Soon you will see signs saying there is a blood shortage. Translation to REDCROSS speak: We are broke and we need to sell your blood to hospitals so we can meet our dead beats on payroll.

Call Chris Bray in Ilion and ask WHY the Red Cross is not performing up to your standards. He's the Chairperson of the Red Cross. It's a great question.

Don't mistake the local chapter..or lack of one ..with the blood donor needs, please. My child needs blood routinely and it is so important that people donate the blood. It is sad there aren't enough volunteers to support a local presence. It also takes the authorities to invite the Red Cross to set up services. They can't show up and can only give the services the local emergency service asks for. Do we know if they asked the Red Cross to help. Let's focus on the good that is done and not throw stones. Energy can be so better used.

The Red Cross should have their truck down here feeding people who can't cook because no home or power or serve the emergency workers. Wanna know why their not because their broke. Feeding their employees large salaries benefits who do nothing. Not casting stone simply displaying truth. People on Herkimer county are suffering and these slime bags set up shelters in Utica. American Red Cross fails again!!!!

Yes, and keep in mind that the Salvation Army is one of the richest charities in the US. I'm not saying that they don't help some, however, I heard from an inside source awhile back that there is a lot of scimming off the top locally and nationwide. Also, HCCC should have been the local option for local people not MVCC!!

HCCC is being used to house all the VOLUNTEER firefighters that came from across the state to pump water. All while our beloved HFD sit in their recliners waiting for a fire call. Life is good boys. I wish we had firefighters with a quarter of the heart that these VOLUNTEERS have.

Hey it's Sunday still no Red Cross. What's up with that?

No more to United Way because they give to Red Cross.
No more to Red Cross because they care about nobody but their salaries.

I see the Salvation Army truck going around giving out water and they are back open to feed people again.

I support the Salvation Army.

Today I received a ham sandwich and 2 bottles of water from the Red Cross for lunch and a hamburger, hot dog, soda and Girl Scout cookies from the Salvation Army for dinner. I'm on Smith Street so they are around. Personally I think the response - whether it's all the fire departments, police, National Grid, service organizations - has been good so far. I appreciate everything these people are doing to help us.

the response from organizations around the state has been great. The Red Cross has been around as has the Salvation Army. Volunteer fire companies from all over have come to help. For those that would complain, volunteer is the operative word. Get off your lazy butt "Homeless"and volunteer. You would surprise you how good it feels compared to whinning on Topix!

Yes they are stepping up to the plate now. They are out helping people. I see them all over. I had my doubts too yesterday, but I've changed my mind. Try to do little acts of kindness especially now. I see the strain and exhaustion everywhere. Everyone is going to get through this but it will not be easy. This event will be remembered for years to come. Try to be a beacon of kindness. You will benefit spiritually and so will everyone you can help--even if it is just a small favor etc. God Bless, Peace out!!
