Under our standard overdraft practices for M&T personal checking accounts:

1. We will charge you a fee of $38.50 ($37 if your account is in our Delaware pricing region†) each time we pay an overdraft, unless one of the following exceptions applies:

The amount of the transaction is less than $10 (or less than $5 if (1) your account is a Free Checking account or (2) our records reflect that your account is in a pricing region other than our Delaware pricing region† and is an M&T Direct Checking,@College CheckingSM, Direct Deposit Checking, M&T Totally Free Checking, M&T First, M&T First With Interest, or Worry Free Checking account);
Your account has already been charged a total of 5 NSF and overdraft fees for items processed for payment on that business day (6 in our Delaware pricing region†); or
For accounts in our Delaware pricing region,† the amount of the item we pay does not exceed your “ledger balance,” which is your available balance plus funds deposited into your account but not yet made available.

(NOTE: We will not charge a fee if the overdraft results from an ATM or one-time debit card transaction from your checking account and you have not elected to permit us to authorize and pay these transactions when you do not have enough money to pay them. These same fees and limits generally apply when we decline to pay items because you do not have sufficient available funds to pay them; however, we do not charge insufficient funds fees on declined ATM and debit card transactions.)
2. In addition to any overdraft fee charged for a particular item, if your checking account is overdrawn and you do not repay this amount as described below, we will charge you one or more extended overdraft fees as set forth below:

For Checking Accounts in Our Delaware Pricing Region:†
We charge a $10 extended overdraft fee if you fail to repay all amounts you owe to us by the 5th business day after your checking account became overdrawn or further overdrawn. We will charge another $10 if your checking account still remains overdrawn on the 10th business day.
For Checking Accounts in Our Other Pricing Regions:
We charge a $38.50 extended overdraft fee if you fail to repay all amounts you owe to us by the 5th business day after your checking account became overdrawn or further overdrawn.

(NOTE: You will not be charged an extended overdraft fee if the overdraft in your account is solely attributable to ATM and one-time debit card transactions and you have not elected to permit us to authorize and pay these transactions when you do not have enough money to pay them.)
Fees may be imposed for paying overdrafts created by check, in-person withdrawals, ATM withdrawals or other electronic means. If we pay an overdraft on your account, you must immediately repay us. Whether your overdrafts will be paid is discretionary and we reserve the right not to pay. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your account is not in good standing, or you are not making regular deposits, or you have too many overdrafts.

Run, don't walk, as fast as you can from M&T Bank. Everyone in my family who had Partners Trust left as soon as M&T took over. We now all belong to a credit union...better all the way around.

Went to M&T to cash a check, and even though it was drawn on their bank, it cost me $10 to get it cashed.(because I don't have an account there) I feel not only did I lose the money, their customer who wrote the check lost out too ! M&T isn't going to be around for long, I suggest anyone who has an account there move their money NOW. The Ilion Branch of M&T is closing soon, the rest will follow shortly. Good riddance to a lousy bank !!

Get an account at First Source. Much better and easier on the fees.

The Ilion branch is closing because someone else bought the building not because M&T is leaving the area.

I'm seriously tired of these self-entitled non M&T Bank customers berating and harassing employees because of the check cashing fee ($10). If you disagree with the policy, go take the check to YOUR bank or find another means of getting the check cashed.

I only bank with M&T and if someone wrote me a check drawn on another bank, I'm not going there. I'll take it to my bank and deposit it there. Why? Because I have an account in good standing and like using it. I'm just trying to get by like millions of other Americans, but I know how to micromanage the little that I have.

You (non-customers) have no relationship with the bank yet you feel you're entitled to a fee waiver? They're providing a service to you and sometimes companies charge for their services.

I hate them! I used that bank before the merger, and the "new way" of M & T banking is ridiculous. I deposed my whole payroll after 4 pm Thursday, and find out today (Friday) that my money is not available until 12 midnight tonight. I am penniless until then. They just lost a customer. I am going to a bank who deposits your check you work hard for and you can spend it the same day!(Even if you don't get out of work until after 4 pm!)
is there a bank that deposits your money the same day? M&T is just getting us to pay for acquisitions. No bank is great though,

I've been with M&T for over 25 years and last month I needed to use my money I had in savings. Today I see a $5 charge to my savings account because I touched the account 5 times in one month. I'm moving to PNC since it's obvious M&T is not loyal to their customers, why not start new.

About two years ago I notice we screwed up our checking account. So I ran down to make a quick cash deposit before it caused a problem. I made the deposit got the receipt and all was good, I thought. The following week I was minus about $80. It seems I made the cash deposit ten minutes after the start of "their new business day". The way it fell it caused two checks to go belly up at the tune of $39 EACH...$39 to cover a check F-me.

I won't mention the bank but I switched to a bank in Herkimer that the business day ends at the end of business "that day" (to answer johnnyboys question) and mistake costs $25.

this country was a lot better off when these greedy power-monger bankers and their banks were federally regulated. Now they are in complete control and the average joe-six-pack has to pay for all their luxuries. they will not take less! ask any girl that is a teller at a bank. she will tell you that her wages are not that good.

That fee pertains to Regulation D, which limits the amount of withdrawals or transfers (excluding transfers done with a teller) you can make in a statement cycle. Six is the absolute maximum permitted by law. Anymore than that and you'll receive a warning from the bank. If you do it 3 times, the bank will have to close the account.

$5 is steep, but PNC permits 3 per month ($3 for each withdrawal or transfer in excess of 3). Have you tried asking about a fee waiver? Bank employees are reluctant to do NSF waivers but small service charges shouldn't be a big deal.

I have an account with m and t Bank and no one should have to pay to cash a check when its from my account. This is not right. Do they not trust their own customers. I'm currently changing banks due to they have stolen money from my accounts. Thats a good bank.
