Has anyone looked at the M & T bank statement? My statement for my business shows a new fee begining Jan 1, 2009. The are charging a fee to deposit CASH!! 14 cents per $100 over $5000 a month AND 14 cents a roll for getting rolled coins! Wow! They get 350 million from the FED for the bailout after buying up all the small banks and the charge you for giving them money!!
Bye Bye M & T Bank! Businesses beware!

I hate them! I used that bank before the merger, and the "new way" of M & T banking is ridiculous. I deposed my whole payroll after 4 pm Thursday, and find out today (Friday) that my money is not available until 12 midnight tonight. I am penniless until then. They just lost a customer. I am going to a bank who deposits your check you work hard for and you can spend it the same day!(Even if you don't get out of work until after 4 pm!)

so your first 60k is free. So if you make a 100k a year your paying just under 60 to feposit a total of 100k. Thats really not that bad

The bank is using and investing that money. They shouldn't charge you for that privilege. Credit unions are the answer!

all banks suck nowadays. i have accounts at two local banks, but i cash clients checks at there own bank if it is local. it seems every couple months they have a new policy. the first stupid rule they started was, they won't cash a check if it's made out to a business. it's like the people who make these rules have no "calmn cents". a while back, bank of america started a new policy where if you are cashing a check there, and you don't have an account, they want to see a credit card as well as a drivers liscence. why is this? it's not like if the persons check bounces they can charge it to my credit card. m&t has started putting your thumb print on the check if you don't have an account there. the other day i cashed a check at citizens bank, it was made out to cash, but they asked for my drivers liscence, even though i signed it in front of the teller. remember when a check made out to cash was as good as cash. they tell you that it is for your protection, but what they are really doing is trying to make it as tough on you as they can, if you don't have an account there, so you will open an accout. who would want to have an account at every bank in town? nbt doesn't seem to have too many stupid rules, but i'm sure it's just a matter of time.

No gostly, the first $5k is free, not $60K. It is not checks, CASH! So if a business deposits $100,000 in a month in CASH, they charge you $140.00.

Every month there is a $2.95 service charge added to my checking account for use of the bill pay service. Then they add the money back in on the next line. What type of account do you have?

The first 5k a month is free.....when doing the math that means the first 60k a year is free....

M&T is no different than any other bigger bank. They fee you to death. I did a huge amount of business through their bank and had a stellar credit rating but they wouldn't give me overdraft protection. A few times a year I got stuck by a client's bad check not clearing and would end up with a few overdrafts. They would pay any overdrafts but charge me the $$fee. This basically amounts to saying... we can't give you a line of credit on your account to cover a potential overdraft but we will actually extend you that same credit and charge you $30 or $40 a pop. Criminals, Hypocrites and Shylocks. I dumped them for a credit union like everyone should. Oh yeah, the fee for cash deposits is another insane issue that drove me away. You're going to see credit unions opening in every small town in the next few years.

I actually just realized I have the same problem. I haven't been paying attention to my statements and they've been charging me $8 every month since august 29th and I didn't even touch my bank account that month! I will get to the bottom this one way or another

It's called "FRAUD", you would not believe how much fraud happens in a bank. You would think you would be happy that we were trying to protect your money. The reason they ask for the credit card is because it is so easy to make a fake drivers license and the odds of having two fake ids isn't as great. If you dropped that check made payable to cash, according to the law anyone could cash it. The reason banks ask for ID is to protect YOU.
