On 08/24/2011 I had my Ford Fusion inspected by a reputable Mechanic . While the car passed inspection, the mechanic stated that down the road I would likely need some brake pads on the rear wheels. Unfortunately the Mechanic didn't not have time to install the pads that afternoon.
I went to Cole Muffler/ Herkimer Mavis in hopes of getting the pads installed. I told the sales/counter person that the tires has just been off, and the car passed the NY state Inspection, but I could use some pads put on the car. The Sales person stated he understood and wrote up the order to check rear brakes and estimate. An hour later the same sale person cam to me to "show me what we got into". The Sales person stated that I needed the rear pads, two rotors, and that both rear calipers where "broken and would not go back together". At that point I noticed all of the "needed" parts had already been pulled and ready to install. Do to the fact the salesperson told me The parts where all broke, i had no choice but to authorize the installation.

The total came to 678.27, a far cry then the cost of some pads being installed. I priced the same parts at retail, not whole sale like Mavis would get a half mile down the road, to find that they not only fraudulently repair vehicles they double the price on the parts. The Calipers alone where 183.94 a piece.

I find it hard to believe that a creditable mechanic would tell me to get some pads later down the road, and then Mavis would find everything so broken down, and so unusable that they could not even put it back together.

While I was waiting a customer told me how they gave her an estimate to fix a pipe of a 140.00, then changed it to over 400. It is a shame this is how these people do business in this economic time.

A similar thing happened to me. I brought my car to my mechanic, he recommended Cole as they could do it quicker than him and he said it should cost me about $700. I called Cole, told them what I needed, he quoted me a price over the phone and when I dropped it off to have it done, the quote now was $1800 because "more" was wrong. I did my own research and found the price for the catalytic converter was much less than what they were saying. I brought it back to my mechanic, had to wait a few days but the "inconvenience" saved me $1000!

Call NYS and they will take care of these people. I had to call NYS about Tallmans in Utica and Tallmans had to give me back my $655.00 pronto and they were fined. If no one reports these people they will not stop screwing us. Look out for Tallmans they are like coles and Richards.

I know people who have worked at your dump and your boss Dan is not a very nice guy also he has no idea what he's doing half the time. As for you shoving a muffler up my butt, buy what the people who used to work at your dump said sounds to me to be true because you seem to know all about shoving it to people.

I need a wheel alignment and was actually thinking about going to Mavis here is Rockland County, New York.

Now I know not to.

Glad to have seen this post.

Unfortunately, there are many companies ripping people off these days as they are hungry for the money!

Thanks.

Brake pads are not hard to replace. Learn to do them yourself you pathetic lazy POS. I just did all four brakes on a Honda yesterday in my driveway in less than 2 hours time. Didn't need rotors, didn't need calipers.

BTW, things break when they are taken apart after some time. The mechanic who inspected it didn't have to take anything apart, only had to remove the wheels to insspect the pads. You bought a junk car that is falling apart. Don't blame Cole for your mistakes. Calipers aren't cheap either.

About a week ago I reported Cole Muffler/Mavis to the State AG and have been promised an investigation is under way.

I was at Mavis in Herkimer last week for new tires and had no problems. I got a great price on decent tires. Never had my car repaired there.
