does any one pay attention to their electric/ gas bills? i just paid mine and couldn't help but to notice that it cost me almost as much for national grid to deliver the gas and electric to my house as the cost of the gas and electricity. 135$ to deliver 143$ worth of gas and electricity. this sure seems to fit right into a state that charges you all kinds of fees for about everything. like a surcharge of 85$ on a 50$ traffic ticket.
but come on, it's not like national grid is just now putting in the pipe and poles and wires. this stuff has been in the ground for 50 years or more.
imagine just how much money this company is ripping off every month. if my fees are just average, and i'm betting they are on the low side, that's 135 bucks times what?. maybe 200,000 customers that equals at least 27 million? times 12 months equals 324 million? that should be enough to replace most of the infrastructure every year. every year. doesn't it ever get paid for? i think maybe 20- 30 million should be enough for maintenence. after all don't they charge for new services?
what a rip off. i think this really needs to be addressed. what an extra expense to have in these tight times. or in any times.

my suggestion would to eliminate the fees. of course there is no way that will happen, once somone has the hook in you it is almost impossible to get it out.
the logical thing would be to expect our govenment to stop it thru laws and regulations. i bet that some where there already is a law about excessive fees. but i'm pretty sure this won't happen either.
i have no suggestions because we both know that the public can not get together and try to do anything about it. they will do what national grid wants them to do-- keep on paying it with out complaint.
in a perfect world a protest would be raised and the fees withheld til some measure of satisfaction is had. whether by the company agreeing to it or some law passed and they are forced to comply.
let's hear your own suggestions, or don't you mind paying this rather high fee?

Well, I live in Ilion where, yes, the electric is cheaper. But, my most recent National Grid bill was only $75, which I don't think is too bad. That covers heat, gas stove/oven and gas hot water heater. Our other home outside of Ilion uses National Grid for electric only and that bill was only $22, so again, don't think that's too bad (actually it was less than my Ilion electric bill).

I live in Herkimer and my bill went up $50 this month. I have no idea why because we haven't used anymore than usual and yes, my delivery charge is about equal to my electric charge. However, there is no other market so it's pay up or live in the dark!

We could get everyone to get propane generators and get off the grid. They would have to drop the prices. I know it would be hard to do. Letters to higher ups will never do it. It has to be done by volumes of people and they have to stay consistent. I know a few people that are doing it but, it is more work, but they say it is so rewarding not to pay National Grid. You know the company that isnít a monopoly, wink, wink. They got you by the junk.

the figures i quoted were off the top of my head. i do realize that they are a french company and they think the world of them selves. i also know that they are in the middle of screwing with most every one who works there over their contracts. i was thinking of new york only. that is what effects us.
i guess you must be a shareholder and like it. so you look over the rip off charges.

and try to get off the grid with your own power supply of any kind and see how fast they will have the codes inspector or troopers there to say it is illegal or you don't have the proper permits that you can't even get.

I use no gas whatsoever in Ilion during the summer yet they charge me a fee for the hookup. It's now up to $18.00. Insane.

We have a propane stove in the house we just purchased and are planning on selling it and getting a pellet stove. Found out that not only does propane have the highest cost for heating, but also has the poorest efficiency.

Yes, but your not giving your money to National Greed. Pellets are nice but, the plastic bags are bad for the environment. Wish there was a way to ship them in paper or bio-plastic. They do deliver them now by the truck load if you have a bin.

Herkimer has it's own HYDRO - it always has had it. Mayor Mitchell signed the contract over to Niagara-Mohawk in exchange for free utilities on the village streetlights instead of giving all us residents a municipal rate. Then to show their appreciation, Ni-Mo floated his political campaign & made him Congressman Mitchell.

It helps the power companies ensure their interests are properly voted upon in Washington. And screw the little guys who voted you into office.

We still have National Grid for all our electric and, honestly, I can't say it is too bad. Our bill for December was only $50. The last bill we had in Ilion (on municipal electric) was $37 and we only used electric for lights, tv, etc. Cooked with gas, gas hot water heater, gas heat (and our National Grid bill for all this was $75). In the new house we cook with electric and have an electric hot water heater. As an alternative to the pellet stove, we have an oil furnace and a wood furnace, but still plan to get the pellet stove.

propane is especially nice for the owner of the propane company. unlike national grid they, and the heating oil company owners, can guarantee their profits. they can change the prices of their energy any time they wish. national grid can not.
propane is a convenient fuel, it can be put right next to the house and run to the appliance with a little bit of tubing. no need for miles of pipes. and yes it does cost more. all of the time.

Herkimer sold their power plant to Niagra Mohawk which is now National Greed (Grid).

You want to save money each month on your electric and gas bill.I signed up as a customer at Ourfuture.joinambit.com there is no fees or hidden charges and you can stop it at anytime, which I do not know why you would want to.I saved 7% for the first 2months and when I signed up not even a week later I recieved a free trip to the poconos just for becoming a customer.I at first thought this was a scam but it really is not.I used to pay around $350 each month for gas and electric but now for the past 8months I have been paying nomore then $280 a month,is a big change.
