Valley Liquor putting liquor shops out of busineess

All other liquor stores in Herkimer getting ready to close their doors due to the competition. Already see the difference in the other shops compared to a nice new shop offering sales and specials and 15% case discounts.

No they aren't, that was their idea, but it's not working. The valley belongs to us, not some moron from Utica. Who's daddy has money. Some one said , if you can't stand the heat, hope it happens to you.

If people think that by using their buying power to close others down is something to brag about shows the character and there disregard for local business establishments. Do they live here, buy hardware here, dine here, buy gas here, to most the answer is a clear no. We have lived and done business here for over 60 years not 60 days. We promise with the purchasing power we have to keep our prices low accordingly and offer rewards card and sale to save our loyal customers money. I believe loyalty is more than a word it's a commitment to each other in good times and bad we ban together for the good of unless we decide otherwise. ME

The last I know co-op buying wasn't allowed in NYS. Has that changed?

I am a big believer in buying local! As a small business owner, whenever possible I buy from small businesses that have been in our area for the long haul! We've already seen what Walmart and Lowes has done to our small shops. Let's not let this happen to Ramars too!

Can the new liquor store co-op buy with their sister store in Utica to keep prices lower or not???

Check the NYS Liquor Authority web site, bars and liquor stores cannot co-op buy. So the new liquor store and Applebee's have no unfair advantage.

I suggest the other two stores buy the bulk deals and pass the saving along to your "valued customer". If they were doing this to start with the other store may not have opened. Replacing one bottle at a time and killing your customer with high prices catches up.

Valley licker will do huge business as nobody really cares about local this and that, as folks just want the cheapest and value buys thats it. The other two shops wil need to step up with the sales, specials and offers that others won't have for the time being, but Valley licker will always price match and offer the same at same price, so it will come down to which ever is closer to the prospective customer at the time and who will have most in stock.

The other shops will need to find new items from time to time and offer what may appear to be "DEALS" as we all know you still need to make a profit, but now you all will need to work a little harder.

The other two shops each have their issues, but they too can cause issues for valley Lick... Offer better wines that you only can get in each shop, with a little work, find suppliers to only deal with your shop if this is possible by buying more.

Each of you basically sell the same thing so this will be tough

Do you shop Walmart, Kmart, Applebees, DOLLAR SHOPS, RENT A CENTER PLACES, Dunkin Doughnuts, PIZZA HUT, MC DONALDS,????Do they live here? buy Gas here? Thought so.....

People will shop everywhere and the smaller shops will just have to deal with it like all other small shops. Offer unique items that those other shops can't.

Why on Earth, Herk thought we needed another Liquor shop is beyond me anyway. Just like we may need another gas station or Pizza place.

What we do need is a BURRITO SHOP.

Of course we had Burrito Jonz for like three whole months but nooooooo -- that didn't work out. Epic fail on multiple fronts.

Those burritos were pretty damn good too. Let's do a quick count across Herkimer Ilion Mohawk and Frankfort:

Pizza places -- 16

Burrito places -- 0

Yep that makes perfect sense.

anyways, there will be a burrito shack in every town when the Mexicans make it this far north and save enough from landscaping to open their shops. Then we will see yet another immigrant class come and show us Americans how to thrive in a capitalist society.

This may take a while around here...you still have convenience stores not owned and run by towel heads.

I agree with you about supporting small businesses but to be honest with you, I have not set foot in Ramars in years. The last time I was there, the man behind the counter was loud, drunk, and hardly knew what he was doing. Not exactly a positive image for a small business.

Will keep getting my business. There is no reason that Vintage and Ramar's should be $15-$20 higher for certain products. Plus, so far the guys at Valley are a little kinder than Ramar's, a smoke filled dark pit and Vintage where they watch every move you make.
