There were about fouty girls that tried out for basketball season actually including the 8th graders and those were the ones that came out on top to be on the team. You people on here need to get real and mind your own business because geuss what, you don't know the facts. These are good girls. At least they are passionate and involved in school activities, which is probobaly more than I can say for some of the parents kids that are actually the ones bashing on them. Why are you so concerned about high school cheerleading anyway? These girls aren't bothering anybody, they are doing what they love to do. They should feel fotunate to be at a school that offers one of the best cheerleading teams around the valley and I know they do. Their coaches put a lot of time and effort into these girls and the girls put so much effort in also. They proved this when they came home with the Section 3 Championship title. More that I can say for some of the other "sport" teams.

Go back to school and learn how to spell.

Stay in schook and learn how to spell, as you have mucho errors.

okay.. this is it. i think everyone has had ENOUGH of everyones bull on here. for one, you ALL are flipping out on a WEBSITE?! and two, cheerleaders work their hardest to show people what they really are. sorry for you people that dont pay attention to them. they actually do some things that i bet NONE of you could do. NONE. lets see you toss a girl in the air, and catch her. OR lets see any of you BE that girl getting tossed HOW many feet in the air? ya.. grow up. and they dont like cheering girls games, sorry, their bad for wanting to go to guys away games. and so what if they complain? its none of your business anyway, if you people say you "dont pay attention." and for cutting the sport? ya right, they were the ONLY ones that got the school TWO section three title IN A ROW. and they are not good? okay, lets see that one. another thing, lets see any of you go to their practices. they bust their butts off there, and are there LONGER than other sports! so let the cheerleaders do their thing, and LEAVE THEM ALONE.
and for you people who support them, go you!

as a former well known hhs cheerleader i will say i am glad i never had to cheer for the girls basketball games. whoever decided that is stupid. they don't want to be there and the girls don't want them cheering during their games. and as for the whining on the court/field, it is up to the coach to keep them in line. if we spoke out of line or were fooling around, we had to sit for the quarter/period or was not allowed to cheer at the next game. it all comes back to who is coaching them

i have heard from recent hhs cheerleaders claiming that their coach is horrible and just stand/sits there and they teach themselves the stunts and routines. how can a team progress if there is no coaching? and how are inexperienced jv girls going to be when they reach varsity level if they have no appropriate former training? we became a dynasty. while it was unknown to the public, we were the best non-tumbling team in the valley.

the coach should be fired. don't discount the program. if the right coach is put in place who is not only talented but a good role model for these girls, i think they would fair better with public image and performance. they should be pumping up the crowd and keeping the crowd entertained during down time at games. at least that was what we did but then again, when i cheered our fball and bball teams went to the dome/manlius during sectionals practically every year.

basically...fire the coach. re-select the team. incorporate different styles of dance/performing.

Excellent post. The coach, at least at games, just sits there. Thats it. I've never seen her say a word to the girls and she has done nothing to end the harassment suffered by her girls at the hands of varsity girls bb players. She's too young and obviously doesnt have the balls to step in where she should. They need an older coach that isnt afraid to step up and put an end to the childish bullshit and maybe teach her girls a thing or two while shes at it.

Have you been to a varsity game!? Those girls are amazing....What do you want the coach to do go out there and cheer with them!!! At the games there isn't much to do except guide them along if they need help with anything and if they can't think of a cheer to do. Cheerleaders prepare for the games at practice. As for you saying "she just sits there and doesn't say a word" is very UNTRUE. She is right out there with them when they are warming up. As I'm sure she does the same at practices. As for ending the harassement by the girls, what do you expect her to do?! That problem is not in her hands and there is nothing she is able to do about it, that is up to the school.

herkcheer alum, you say your a former herk cheer alum..well who are you!? If you are you would know that it has been a while time since a good cheerleading coach has been at herk high. The past few years the team has grown so much and is actually attending competitions now. Oh yeah, and another thing, lets see you juggle your daily life while coaching TWO teams and see how you do!

Also I know for a fact that the coach makes/made up the whole routine for these girls!

Have you ever been to a game to watch the girls? They are always doing cheers during time outs and throwing up stunts and getting the crowd involved! You think the coach should be fired? Just try to find a more dedicated and caring coach that they have now. Or heres an idea, why don't you coach if you have such a big opinion!

I think I cheered with the alum that posted above. What she posted about what team she was on sounds extremely familiar to me especially the dynasty era when we would travel throughout the East Coast to competitions and succeed and getting into trouble for screwing around on the sidelines!! And while I never had to cheer for the girls' game, I say bravo! All teams deserve support.

But the era she is referring to was well over 15 years ago when Herkimer had good athletics. This was the Steve Sanzo era when he was breaking records and the coaching was hardcore and we cheered at Harmon Field. Maybe what people are saying/heard is false because the people informing these posters have something against those that cheer in any capacity? Sadly, the outlook on cheerleaders hasn't progressed in 15 years like I wished it would have.

It seems to me that the bulk of posters on this particular subject are bashing these girls. Coaching any sport at any level is tough. My daughter is on a Pop Warner team in Syracuse and their coach has a lot to deal with even though the girls are around the ages of 7-9. I think this website is just fuel to a fire that shouldn't even exist. All these topics on here are just silly. I wish all HHS teams the best of luck in the future.:)
