Although cuts have to be made. Let's not lose sight of the fact that our educators live and work in our community as well. It should also be noted these problems stem from Albany. They have sold our students and educators out. I'm not sure how they tell us how important education is and then they fail to support it. Tax payers state wide should be outraged at this failure of support of our education system.

So let's keep them employed because they live on our community? With such thinking no wonder the schools have such high payroll costs and 'contractual obligations'. Is the school providing corporate welfare?

All I'm saying is don't throw the baby out with the bath water. We have a lot of good educators who are being hurt by this. They live and work and vote and pay taxes too. It's going to take a cooperative effort by everyone to get through this.

So why do all teachers as a whole prefer this proposal to make a few part-time rather than sticking together and give up a small percentage of their benefits or even a SMALL cut in pay for the wellbeing of all. Instead they throw a few colleagues under the bus. What a nice union.

Do you understand what Mr. Miller is trying to do here? By offering
some teachers part time positions, he is forcing them to make a
decision; either try to live on half pay or quit. If a teacher decides to
quit he can fill that teacher's position with an inexperienced person
at probably half of the pay of the teacher who quit. If he simply
eliminated the teacher's position , then he would have to offer
the job to that teacher if the position was reinstated. It's a way
to save money and also to break the union. It's not about the
"best education", it's about saving money! Can you spell "merger"?
P.S. How many positions are being cut at CVA? P.P.S. It's
always easy to say that if the teachers weren't so greedy and
they would all take a little cut, everyone's job could be saved.
Of course, all of you would take pay cuts and cuts in benefits to
save your fellow workers. Sure you would!

It happens all the time in the private sector. What planet are you from? It would appear Corporate management is more caring than your union rank and file.

What is "it" that happens all all the time in the private sector?
Does corporate management ask employees to take a cut to
save their fellow workers? What planet are you from? When you
use pronouns such as "it" and they don't refer to anything, there
is no clear meaning. Do you understand what "it" means? P.S.
What the private sector does is send the jobs to China!

No, what is boring is your name calling anytime anyone disagrees with your narrow, nasty views. And while they were a neighboring school, they had a long term plan to be the best they could be and put their time and focus into that. I will never fault anyone or any town for working towards excellence. "Blow me's", "Loser", et al are not going to pay your bills or dig your school out of 384th place. You ought to try it sometime.

Common Core- Another person who doesn't know what pronouns
are for. What is the "this" that you can't sustain anymore? Herk-
imer teachers are some of the lowest paid around. Who are "these"
teachers who did "it" to themselves? What is the "it" that they did?
If you are looking for the "cheapest" school in the area, Mr. Miller
is your man. Herkimer can become the Walmart of upstate high
schools.

Reality Check..I think you need one. Do you really think that it is more important to keep the Arts than worry about academics? Ask any graduate from HHS that attended a "real" college, how academically prepared they were. I graduated from HHS in the late 70's, at the top of my class and struggled through college to obtain my professional degree. I have siblings, as well as nieces and nephews, who have also graduated from this school who will tell you the same. Maybe spoon feeding these kids and handing out honors left and right makes the school look good, but it does nothing to prepare these kids for the real world. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to break into the movie or theater industry? Preparing these kids for a career in healthcare, law enforcement or for trade school, where jobs are attainable, seems a better idea to me. How many kids from Herkimer do you know that have a career in sports, music or theater? I can think of a handful. I say, cut some of the extra-curricular teachers to part-time status. Academics are too important to these kids who are already miles behind their peers from other area schools.
