I hope the people saw the comments from the Herkimer Super. He stressed the problems ahead. Herkimer and Frankfort came on board and the school districts okayd it and NOW the Ilion, Mohawk kids suffer from Closed minded selfish, (live in the past) people. Kids have limited sports, less classes and money problems and now they are all in the same place they were two years ago. I cant wait to see what Herkimer and Frankfort people do with no classes and limited teachers and no sports. I cant wait for the ILION-Mohawk Merger to be passed. We will see what happens then.

Your merger euphoria will fade faster than the colors of your new uniforms. Once your B School is formed and everyone gets their raises after the Union tells you how much you will pay you will be saddled with the new tax bill. We weren't being selfish we were being prudent. This many people can't be wrong. Let's see how that Fire Dept Thingy works out.

Good answer, BUclkeUp. Exactly right, if this merger went through, any savings would be gobbled up so fast by the teachers union it would make your head spin. Did anyone honestly think that in a new district the union would not demand salaries equivalent to Whitesboro? Did anyone think that there would be any cuts of administrators? Don't kid yourselves folks, valley schools are just as good as any out there, always have been...valley kids regularly get into big name colleges. The "lack of specialized classes" has never kept any valley kid out of a good college. SAT scores are important, not the classes you take.

You are right about one thing, this many people can't be wrong...add all those that voted for the merger...it exceeds those that didn't. Change is never easy, but we need to focus on our kids and what they need. Nobody knows what it will be like, but we do know it's not working now.

well the idiots of herkimer got there way. now the kids of mohawk and ilion will suffer even more then before. a lot of sports will be closed and certain subject will no longer be available. as for herkimer you think this is done. i have been informed that you will also drop some sports and certain classes could be closed. next is new york state will come in with a short time and jam it to you. and when they do, you will have no say in the matter. they will tell you the way it will be. any then you will cry till no end. it time for all to work together not apart. you have to deal with progress and not live in the past. as for that many people being wrong, well they were and all will pay later, watch and see. just look at your village again, main st looks like a deserted town. jobs are very few. and to show how you people are, that the police had to be called because you idiots could not act like grown adults at the school. you should be pround of yourselfs, beause no one else is.

Come on, Speeder, Tony's Pizza giving out pizza for "no" votes? How would they know how someone voted? That doesn't make sense.

I would vote no again. Just because you can't afford higher school taxes doesn't mean I have to save your ass. I'm perfectly willing and able to pay more. The so called advantages to merging was nothing but rhetoric cooked up by a save a few bucks bandwagon. I'm sorry you are broke. Its never to late to go to college and get a real job.

The people voted and the proposed merger didn't pass. It's over, now stop living in the past, Herkimer Haiku, before you join the rest of us "Dumb Valley morons," who are "...always living in the past." And, I never wondered "why the smartest people leave town, because I never knew they lived here to begin with." In fact, I wish I would have known the smartest people were living here, because I have a lot of questions I would have liked to ask them before they left.

It isn't because of the schools, it's because of the government we have that enables too many people to have a life without working. This area has become infested with low-life's who choose to suck off the system's tit rather than make something of themselves. The schools didn't make Main Street what it is.
The one's who don't come back after graduating have parents who who have been involved and have told them to get the hell out of here while there's an opportunity. I've already told my kid and if I have anything to do with it, I'll be right behind.

The whole truth and nothing but the truth is that if school employees and yes that includes teachers were willing to give up a part of their raise, not cut their wages, but forgo part of their raise then it would go a long ways towards plugging the deficit. that is the way they do it in the private sector. They do not give away money they do not have. And teachers have no problems screwing over each other to keep their raise even if by doing so it results in some being laid off. It is the biggest part of the budget and they would rather see cuts to programs then to let it impact them. Now whose interest are they looking out for? Freaking hypocrits

Although I voted against the proposed merger, I didn't do so because I don't care about the Mohawk and Ilion kids. I voted the way I did because I had questions about the merger; questions that I did not receive valid answers to.

Our children's well-being is everyone's responsibility, regardless of the school you, or your child, attends. I'm sorry to hear that there are people out there who "don't care about the Mohawk and Ilion kids...." You don't have to agree with someone's opinion, but everyone should care, that's what we're all here for.
