if Herkimer residents thing their taxes are high enough hang on to your hats and wait until legions of HPD and HFD retirees collect and the numbers add up exponentially. Where will the money come from? 20 years of service then at least another 30 + collecting medical and pension from hapless Herktown

While I agree that pension cost are too high, after members retire it is no longer on the Village Tax and to this point the state retirement system is self-sustaining through investments (it my not be in the future). Also, ex-employees can opt to have their unused sick leave converted to medical insurance or opt for a cash payout.

The Village does need to be aggressive in controlling expenses, overtime, purchases and really stop wasting our money on senseless lawsuits, ie; new jail. Take the money offered and put it to work for the village.

Great ideas. Ain't never gonna happen. The Unions have you over the barrel. And the taxpayer has nothing to say about it. Just bend over and shut your mouth.
