By eligible I mean nonviolent offenders maybe at the end of their sentence. OK don't anyone have a stroke--its just an idea. OF COURSE UNDER GUARD!!

Not a bad idea. However, anyone who fits that description should already be out out - and wearing an ankle bracelet (except Herk Co likes to keep them in to justify the ridiculously oversized jail they want to build but that's off track here). Regardless, 100% sure he/she doesn't have a job anyway so there ya go - have at it and perform a useful community service. Better than hanging out on Main St.

Of Course Chrissy got his mug on the news passing out MRE's in Mohawk. He's such a hero. He drives the Departments ONLY 4wd truck home and leaves 1 deputy to "patrol" the county in a chevy impala that wouldn't clear a mud puddle. First of all, don't send a deputy out unless it's requested by the real police chiefs, they actually have a background and experience in law enforcement. Secondly, if you wanted to get your ugly mug on the media so bad you should have rubbed some mud on your clothes to make it look like you were really doing something. Stay in your office and run the jail, thats the only thing you're responsible for. From the record number of escapes, it's apparent you can't even do that right. There's no place in Law Enforcement for wanna-be politicians.

Instead of sitting there on your butts, why don't you all find out what you can do to help...set up a grill, cook some food, offer your home for showers for people displaced...You have no idea what ALL first responders are up against. Unbelievable that all you want to do is take shots at the Sheriff. Get over it!

they did this in schoharie during the last big floods there were van loads of prisioners working there. they did a tremendous job. it is good to get a value out of them, rather keep feeding them.

How about instead of prisoners get all the local welfare population out with brooms and shovels.

I say both groups should help. As long as we're on the "Topix" where is the national guard?
