Keblish apparently stated at the legislative "meeting" today that the residents and staff are all happy about the impending sale of the Country Manor to Valley Health Services. Nothing could be further from the truth. Residents are scared, bewildered and not at all for it. Staff have been against it from the beginning. Keblish is a liar. Keblish probably should not bank on re-election.

When i was told about todays meeting and what was said there i am more glad i left the area because it can not be a home for me the way things have been going. The truth will all come out in the end and what the legislatures should be voting on is to get rid of the people in change of running the county and start fresh. Why is Herkimer County one of the poorest in the state and has been for some time. Voters need to get together and start being concerned about whats going on there.

CSEA - give it up. Your demands cost you another 50 jobs. He voted the right way, Steve and Kurt, keep independent and go with what is right! Look at t what the corrupt union did to P & C!!

Keblish isn't independent. He is a puppet. He flat out lied. What were the outrageous demands made by CSEA? That Country Manor residents remain in their home? That their care not be interrupted? That employees KEEP their jobs? This whole thing STUNK from day one. Families were told NOTHING. Families learned of the whole thing via recent newspaper articles. The County czars shared no plans or intentions with families at all. No one can excuse that.

Mr. Keblish has drank the koolaid. He only parrots what he is told to say by the Three Stooges; Russell, Bono & Pieseck. They have allowed this facility to fail by continuing to park their political cronies who had fallen from grace into the position of running the facility. They wanted this problem to be out of their hair; to hell with residents and staff. Residents who are family members of county taxpayers and those who have no other home, and the lowest paid civil service employees. Mr. Keblish, I'll bet you're proud of following the party line and stomping on those who you consider a lower class of person than you. This legislature makes no bones about considering voters and workers to be scum of the earth to them.

After this deal goes through, wait and see who benefits from it: guaranteed it will be a political crony who has donated money to someone's campaign or some legislator's family member or sweetie will magically be wonderfully qualified to get a wonderful job at VHS. This legislature does nothing unless it benefits someone they know personally.

I would like to know who had the audacity to judge this comment as being nuts and clueless. The individual who posted this comment is obviously more knowledgable about the situation with the Country Manor than the coward who judged this comment. Perhaps the person or persons who passed judgment is one of the legislators who voted to sell out the residents of the Country Manor. I hope that someday those voting in favor of the sale has a loved one ripped from his or her home and kicked to the street like which is what is going to happen to most of the residents of the Country Manor. Congratulations to the Herkimer County Legislative body for successfully kicking our beloved senior citizens in the Country Manor to the curb! You're awesome (please note the heavy sarcasm in case you're too slow to pick up on it)!

I agree with your 100%! The cronism in Herkimer County needs to come to an end! I vote for term limits for all the County Legislatures and particularly for Jim Wallace's position! Who made him lord of Herkimer County!! He needs to step aside and let someone with more intelligence take the job!!

Until the residents of this County wake up and vote for people who won't change into sheep the minute they go to Herkimer, this County will be run by idiots who care nothing about anything except their free medical insurance & trying to be relected 4 more times to collect "retirement" from the NYS Retirement System. In the meantime, more and more young people flee the area looking for jobs; older people are fleeing to find medical and nursing home facilites. This bunch of ass backwards, redneck people won't spend money on what is needed to run government efficiently; i.e., a networked computer system, doing away with paper records, keeping building infrastructure in good repair. They'll pay their cronies all kinds of exorbitant salaries, but keep the pay for those who do the "real work" so low that turnover is constant and some positions can't be filled at all. I have lived here all my life, but when I see how bad they have managed to run this County down, I'll have no choice but to leave as soon as I can retire. At the rate they are going, by the time I retire in 5 years or so, Herkimer County as we now know it may be gone. Thanks guys!

The county has no business running a nursing home. This place was a dump. Shut it down, there are more employees then residents.

A question with a question: do you honestly think that anyone cares about what you have to say? Are you still waiting for the data on the folks who "had the audacity" to judge your pet posts on Topix? What a long boring life you must lead. And frankly, I speak for many here, people like you are pretty entertaining...unfortunately not in the way you are intending. Thanks for the laughs, really.

People who want to keep the Country Manor Open:

1) Employees (union members) who want to keep their cushy jobs and benefits. They get paid more and have better benefits than actual CNA's at VHS or hospitals, even though you do not have to be certified to work at the UNSKILLED nursing home. Sorry if the gravy train is over.

2) Families who may have to actually do something for their relatives. CM is NOT a skilled nursing home facility. In other words, to live there, one must be somewhat mobile, continent, and have their faculties. The people there are not suffering from late stage Alzheimers or severe dementia.

In other words, these complainers are worrying about the COUNTY throwing their relatives to the streets (which is not going to happen anyway)even though it is exactly what THEY DID to their "loved ones."

What about taking the "loved one" in instead of pawning it off on the county government and making the taxpayers pay for it?

Nah, you should not have to be "inconvenienced" by the parent that raised you just like you should not have to be "inconvenienced" by a baby (oops, "fetus")that you took your pants off to make.

The idiots complaining about getting out from underneath this money-eating facility are probably the same ones complaining that our taxes, fees, etc. are too high. They are too stupid to even see a connection.

What about connecting with reality and realizing that nothing is free?

If you SERIOUSLY believe that anyone in any way made 'big bucks' providing personal care to the residents of the Country Manor, you are deluded. If whatever the aides made is 'big bucks' to you...well then, so sorry for you.

You apparently don't belong to a union, so have a beef with the idea. So sorry for you.

You make unfortunate assumptions about the families of the residents of the Country Manor. The Country Manor is and has been an assisted living facility. The residents there are competent and make their own decisions. Family members, as a rule, have no say. Residents who live there must choose the facility. You make broad generalizations. Some residents there have outlived family and essentially have no one. Each individual there has a history and is entitled by law to the privacy of such.

They contribute their income to their care and make use of Medicare. As is their right. Some spent down and qualified for Medicaid. As is their right. Perhaps you are independently wealthy and will forever pay your medical bills in their entirety. Bravo. Folks at the Country Manor were once young and also worked. They paid taxes. NO one living in the Country Manor is pawned off. Consent is involved. Get facts before passing on your negative spew. They were paying taxes when you were still crapping in your diaper. Country Manor residents deserve better than the mismanagement and lack of transparency they received.

How right you are Bob Cat! My aunt was a resident there for several years. She loved it there. She was very happy there with her friends and the staff. She was widowed at a young age and worked hard all her life, even up until she went to Country Manor. She wasn't rich enough or sick enough to go anywhere else. I shudder to think where she would have ended up had it not been there. Long before we have to make that kind of decision, we'll leave Herkimer County. Valley Health and its parent company now will own most of the health care related facilities (including hospitals) in this county. No competition will mean higher costs. They evidently don't want Medicaid patients, so if you're poor, leave while you can.
What Does It Take

County Resident, I agree. I think a lot of us have had family in one way or another who have lived at the Country Manor. It's those people's home. They earned the right to live there. The idea that somehow paying taxes for a working lifetime THEN is somehow invalidated NOW is wrongheaded. Damn! Don't grow old, people!
