There is your problem. Start at the top. Tell me what positive attributes this man has? He is a quite, meek and just plain WEIRD man. Not to mention the rest of the family. Wow they are walking rejects. How the hell can we expect results from a man that can't even speak out in public. I can't imagine him being a strong advocate for us behind closed doors. The entire Ainsworth family is shot plain and simple.

Sure, let's fix those parking meters and hurt every small business located near them. They are a joke and so is the revenue they generate. If we spent as much time trying to fix other problems as we do debating the parking meters, we might actually get somewhere. Another joke from this village.

EXACTLY!

We at www.herkimernow.org have repeatedly explained to village officials why parking meters are not only inimical to Main St. business, but why they are in fact illegal, but village officials are as dumb as a box of rocks.

Courts have held that muncipalities cannot operate parking meters when the principal aim is revenue generation, not parking control.

Given the relatively low population density, the abundance of parking spots within several blocks and the fact that most of the low-life Main St.,dwellers don't own cars, there clearly is no reason to rob people of a nickel ... a NICKEL!... to park and then slap them with a fine if and when a violation occurs.

How about we put the meters in the county building parking lot and the lot on Main where our Darling judges and DA park! Let's take their money for a change.
Meters

Ummm..................... I have never NOT shopped on Main St in Herkimer due to having put a quarter in the parking meter........... sorry people - but that's not why people aren't flocking to Main St. If I want to go to Collis, I have no problem putting a quarter in............ Yes Main Street's a mess - but it has nothing to do with the meters, regardless of anyone's opinion - either positive or negative - of them. If a parking meter is preventing anyone from shopping there, what exactly were they going to shop for...................

The issue is not merely that some people are deterred by paying a quarter.

The issue is that they don't want to deal with the hassle. They don't like the inflexibility of not being able to spend time getting a haircut, visiting the library, having lunch and visiting the post office. Who wants to keep looking at his watch?

And more importantly -- suppose you're out of change. You take a chance, you get burned with a $25 ticket. It's a bad experience and leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

So next time you might have visited Main Street, you say to yourself, "Ah to heck with Main St. I'll go to Lowes and have lunch at the sushi place."

Over time the parking meters have indeed become a deterrent to Main St. visitors.

You might be surprised at how widespread the contempt for downtown parking meters is not just in Herkimer but across the valley as a whole.

Take out the meters and no one will be able to park whatever Main Street creature that could have a car it would sit and take a spot all day same thing for county employees. The village needs to enforce its codes and shut down some of these shitholes. How about some patch on those pot holes ironic there is a deep one so close to Coles. Vote out all these bums and fire every department head. Village needs a ground up rebuilding.

Didn't any of you play Monopoly when you were younger?

You will never get Boardwalk results paying Baltic Ave rents.

If the Main street area was booming - you wouldn't be able to afford the rent.

Focus on running a GREAT business - customers will go out of their way to come to you.

Main street has become the excuse for doing badly in business.

Go away. You are not a member of Herkimer Now. The legality of the meters has not been repeatedly discussed with the village officials by members of Herkimer Now. It is not an issue we are working on. Go away.

What a bunch of whining babies. This is the most amusement I have ever seen. Cry baby on top of cry baby. All cloaked behind the computer. Be bold, go to the next Village Board meeting and state you concern, voice your solution and announce that your running for office to change things. Oh what's that, uh huh I thought so.....just another bunch of wanna be's churping in the wind... Keep churping on this site cause that's the only place losers like you will ever be heard.

FREEBLUE- You have clearly mistaken the citizens descent as "whining". You sir, are under the belief government still works. Let's be honest shall we. The local government is paralysed by liabilities. The fear of lawsuits keeps our town in a state of inaction. PEOPLE, the time for attending a local village meeting has long passed, the damage from OUR own inactionhas been set in motion.

Unless the people stand up and start taking initiative, unless the people start saying screw the liabilities, and assume them as martyrs all hope is lost...

REAL ISSUE, With respect, How much revenue does the parking meters generate? Seems old fashion, and it seems a taxpayer would have parking rights to the asphalt beneath their tires, paid for via their taxes. Just because it has been used in the past does not mean it's a just action
