"The South Washington Street bridge over the Erie Canal in Herkimer will be closed for three months as part of a construction project, according to the state Department of Transportation. Starting Wednesday, July 25, drivers will be directed to State Route 28 and State Route 5 as part of a signed detour, a news release from the DOT stated. The closure, about one mile east of the Route 5S and Route 28 intersection, is to allow for the rehabilitation of the bridge deck, the DOT release stated. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the work zone and to pay particular attention to all traffic control devices, the release from the DOT stated. Construction is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 30."
