This is for Good Start, first of all, teachers pay into their retirement fund. If you want to go to school for 6 years and become a teacher than by all means do it. It is usually ignorant people who bash other people because they are so unhappy with their jobs...if they have one. In this economy why would anyone be happy that someone is losing a job? You are an asshole, someone dedicates 29 years of service, teachers your bratty, snot nosed kid how to drive so other drivers on the road can be safe, pays their dues...literally, and gets screwed out of sick days, retirement incentive, full 30 years retirement. Give me a break your a stupid, stupid person who hides behind their computer and relishes in other peoples misfortunes. I suppose you were happy about the flooding and your thinking is probably, "those people deserved to get flooded"...boy you really are a piece of work!!!!!!!

good start- After reading your post, I can under-stand why you want to get rid of high paid tenured
teachers. They obviously weren't able to teach
you how to write coherently or to make much
sense. I'm betting that you'r not a Harvard grad.
P.S. Do the math. The earliest a teacher can retire
and collect a pension is 55. So if they, to quote
you," suck ocf ttaxpayere for 50 thars, " they
would live until at least 105. God bless anyone
who lives that long!

Spoken like a true unionized teacher. Nothing against them personally. But the union's greed over the past decades always demanding more year after year and securing it from being reduced in hard times is a big part of the problem. How do you expect the school to continue feeding your overindulgent greed without eliminating programs or doing early retirements or layoffs. The school legally has to abide by these contracts. The union's security is what created the school's insecure future. The school has been taken over by the union.

Schools have not been taken over by the unions or there would be protection against being cut a year before having to pay someone their "due retirement." Also, unions did not protect during the entire APPR process...so don't speak unless you really know what you're talking about.
I would like to know if it is okay to lay off or eliminate someones job at Remington Arms or the village, county, state, college just short of retirement...would it be okay then? Instead of bashing educated people why don't you bash the welfare who are and have been sucking off the rest of us who do work? Why don't you bash the people who keep popping out babies they can't afford while the rest of us pay for them via Medicaid, WIC, Foodstamps, and Public Assistance? Why don't you bash the people who didn't do their jobs like oh ya cleaning sewers, making sure Bellinger Creek wasn't filled with the junk they themselves have been dumping into, why don't you bash them for literally being responsible for millions of dollar worth of damage from a flood? Why don't you lay off bashing people who have been the working class contributing to the economy and society in a positive way in the Mohawk Valley and paying property taxes so your children and probably yourself can collect your welfare. Who in their right minds would ever be happy about someone else's misfortune? Who would support a district cutting jobs when someone has dedicated 29 years of service?

For their education, teacher pay and benefits are in line.

In Herkimer, teachers and kids are fked. Only the kids and many parents don't know it yet.

When they figure it out they can thank Judge Brennan, that asshool at Tony's pizza and many dumb fks in East Herkimer.

Nothing personal, but you no longer have the tax base to support a school district no matter what the union contract says. Bringing everyone else's salary/benefits down to yours sure doesn't solve any issues either.

Save it......I am not a teacher.

Who is supposed to do all this cleaning up - the sewers and steams - when all the village or county does it cut cut cut. Ummmm....I don't think people realize the size of the village workforce at all. Take a look around at the county roads, they aren't even taken care of. That's why all the problems occurred on the county roads - not really because of the rain - but because of the lack of keeping them up like they used to when they had staff. Please don't start crying about the services you don't get when you cry about paying a a few dollars are even $100 more a year in taxes. Pretty sure if any village around here wanted to increase taxes by $10 a year so 100 year old sewers could be maintained, there'd be a riot. Ask your village how many dwp workers you had 10 years ago and how many you have today. Always first to be cut because you dont see them. Also any municipility is no longer allowed to do any work whatsoever in a creek without DEC ok and there really is no such thing as getting an ok with DEC; they don't care about pepole, only about the environment. That's why all the municipalities had the flood problems - all from DEC. Feel free to look up any meeting minutes.

I will stay. I really do love Herkimer. Too bad you don't. I'm not on welfare, don't get disability, don't get unemployment, don't get foodstamps. I'm not on the government payroll, whether village, town, county, etc. I do just fine, as do my neighbors who are also staying despite you souring the atmosphere with your constant bickering. I don't know what your problem is. Perhaps for you the grass still looks greener on the other side. You should really take a good look around. Stop focusing on the Main Street bums or on the welfare scum. A friend of mine once told me that Herkimer is like a miniature city. You have most of the services and amenities of a larger city except in a 10 block by 12 block area. You don't have the big jobs or large corporations employing hundreds or thousands, the area is too small. Then again you don't have hundreds of people being laid off all at once either. Housing is cheap except for the taxes, but that's the price you pay for having and wanting these services where there is only a small population supporting them. All in all I am pretty well off and I'm happy, as most people are if they really compare their quality of life with those in large cities. But there will always be unhappy people like you who have to wake up every morning and eat their same old sh1t sandwich for breakfast and then have to breathe on us all day long. Stop complaining. If you want to move to Ilion or Little Falls and pollute their air go right ahead, we won't miss you at all. Or you can go to some little town with no services and one street lined with some houses and have your low taxes there. I don't care where you go as long as you leave and let us breathe fresh air without having to put up with your sh1t breath of complaints.

Oh and I forgot to mention that just like in a large city of 600,000, you will have your share of welfare bums, idiots, scum, and whatever else undesirable is there. Except when the overall population is only 6,000, this segment of the population is much more visible because the overall area is so small. The equivalent of living 10 or 20 minutes away from them in a large city is literally you living 1 or 2 minutes away from them here. So you will encounter them and see them every day when you don't in a larger city. So what. At least the crime is not so bad here. You simply choose to focus on these people and complain that this is what Herkimer is. You are so wrong.

Good points all please do not pretend to like payong taxes, its absurd and disgusting to say.the services you speak of are of no consequence 95 % of taxpayers. Except for hwys and maintenance. Maybe if we actually got something useful for our enormous tax debt people wouldn't be upset.and believe me alot more people are thinking the same way i do about tax eating, bottom feeding. Government slugs and the nepotism thats rampant especially here.so yes we who have paid for so long are entitled to some small measure of pleasure from watching these people in government positions take a few hits. Public service slugs have been laughing at us for far to long.but he who laughs last laughs best.take the pensions and healthcare that they feel so entitled its gonna happen the writing is on the wall. Its not if it when.
