A new Victorian Fair (similar to the Renissance Fairs) has been proposed in Schuyler. The park may open on a small scale in 2009 and then grow to a fulltime large event. I think this would be fantastic for the area, something to finally bring growth to our county. I have posted a link to the minutes of the town planning board and the developers proposal. Now if we can keep the NIMBY's from ruining it.

A Renaissance Fair would be a tremendous addition to this community.

Thank you for sharing, and know that there is support out there for such an event!

Why drive to Sterling, N.Y., when you can gather locally for a great joust and jester, perhaps meet the Queen and her court, and then relax with a nice turkey leg and grog for all!

This is not a renaissance fair... it's a 19th century victorian-era venture. Renaissance Faires thrive due to the sub-culture I sometimes refer to as sword-dorks or bard-nerds or what have you. Aside from the civil-war reenactments types I've never heard of anyone pining for the days of steam engines and 40-button shirts. Where's the interest in this? Add some water rides and roller coasters and you have a potential money maker. I've always thought a river-side park with easy off-thruway access would be a winner for the area. How much are they asking the town to kick in? Who wants to visit a park next to the tracks as China-Shipping container trains thunder by? The civil-warriors won't be into it unless it comes with cannons and muskets. Charming but boring. It will be fun for a bit and then after it drains enough from the local tax base it will be yet another weed&rodent-sanctuary. Hey, we've already got a full-size Victorian era park in Little Falls with all the old mills along the canal sitting empty. Until then, Good Day madame.

You all bitch and moan all the time. Then if someone proposes doing something, you all knock it. No wonder NY is stagnant. Keep it up and upstate NY will just be a playground for NYC peeps. And, you all can wait on them as servile servants.

yes, i've often thought that the reason new york was stagnant was due to the fact that there was not enough renaissance fairs and victorian villages. of course people bitch when something like this comes along, what are they supposed to say, yippee!, three factories closed down this year, but we're gatting a victorian village?

it would mean jobs at the park. trickle down effect to motels and resaurants, etc. it is a start. if herkimer county would go after the movie making induustry ... there sure is money in it. we lease our lodge to them for 15 grand a day.
