Yeah...great idea but remove any proof of the home store bring it to the scrap yard and then let everyone know what you got for it. Then it's off to the races.

how much do you think you could get for one as scrap value? they are worth about $300.00. typical small town thinking!

They're not abandoned by the owner, they're stolen property. What happened to honesty around here? They're not yours to sell for scrap. Jerks!

Do the stores monitor shoplifting, sure they do. The stores are allowing the carts to leave the lots, the cops are powerless. I say we give the scumbags that are littering the town with these carts, the "scrap idea". Then the profit hungry stores will have no choice but to stop the practice.

The Village pickes them up using 2 men at least 10.00 an hour, gas for the truck, and don,t get a red penny from the stores. Sounds pretty stupid to me , What do you think

THat's a good way to get them off the sidewalks -- if the businesses don't care to follow up on them, they deserve it.

If the stores start losing them to scrappers they just might stop people from taking them off there property and leaving them all over town for the village to clean up.

The village should at least charge the stores $5 for every cart returned!

Instead the cops should ticket or arrest people who are pushing them. If you charge the store the cost of groceries goes up. Think.Go after the lawbreakers.

I agree, but I think that they would have done it by now if they were going to at all. Maybe if the trucks that go around collecting them would take them when they're being used, it would help. Nothing like being left in the middle of town with a bunch of bags to get the message across!

must be the folks that take them dont have vehicles. Who would not have a vehicle? how do they get around? how did these people get here? Dont they return them when finished? I cant believe this town has people like that.

The water treatment plant near the Sam Maytan site has an abundance of carts stacked behind the fence. Why would the village have a few hundred carts?

I live by a river flooded with stolen, abandoned, or otherwise littered shopping carts. If I were to retrieve them, mainly for the love of the environment, I'd like to recycle them. What's the best way to go about this?

Haha. The cart is someone's vehicle. They don't have enough money to oay for pick up truck, car, or bike so shopping cart is the next best thing.
