As I listen to the scanner I often wonder why we can get fire trucks to fires in a matter of minutes but people that are sick often wait 20, 30, 40 minutes or longer for an ambulance? Anybody got the answer to this?

start paying them and make them accountable
and when they screw up then, hold their feet to the fire

Call Robert Vanderwalker and ask him why. His office is at the 911 center. Fires have always been more important than peoples lives!!

cant say about yours up north but somehow the MOVAC here in the valley got a first dibs on all calls,,then when none of the CHILDREN that worked there showed up you got SECOND TONES then eventually it was handed off to people who could read and write at response..if i had a dollar for everytime a movac ambulance came past me and tried to get me to jump while walking on the road by hitting the siren i could retire. i wish the state would shut them down altogether..WASTE OF GAS- SPACE- AND PEOPLES LIVES..let response take all calls.
and the woman dispatcher the state police tried to get fired in the 80's..(work in progress 20 years later.cant fire a DSS case ) hear her when german flatts flooded?? last month
NO CHANGE,,

The people deserve better. If this Vanderwalker is responsible to make sure this gets done right that he needs to be held accountable.

Are some of you people brain dead, it's because we don't have people. What does 911 have to do with it, they just dispatch per the rules that we agreed to. Many of the rules are set forth by regional ems board and we are bound by them.
Why don't people get out and volunteer instead of complaining.
We're not always happy with 911, but they do their best to get an ambulance to the scene and yes at times, they have numerous agencies not answer or refuse to respond. I think it must be frustrating for them too.
I think you should call Bob Vandawalker, I'm sure he will explain that the State Health Dept regulates EMS, not the counties, and the state should be making it easier for responders, not harder.

Solutions have been discussed with this guy by chiefs and dispatchers but it is not a "FIRE" problem so it gets nowhere! What would happen if they had to tone 5 fire departments for a house fire??? Im sure there would be hell to pay. But the poor person who is having a heart attack...thats different. Maybe he should listen to the suggestions. In his position maybe he should stand up to the region and say "my people need an ambulance in a timely manner"!

What solutions did the chief's have since you seem to have knowledge? You can't just send a ambulance into someone else's Health Dept.CON area without following procedures. Ambulances are not backing each other up like they used to, everyone is getting burnt out covering other agencies calls. People is what we need. I am personally involved in both ems and fire, been to a number of meetings and only heard bitching from chiefs about ems being on the fire radio, never anyone that offered any constructive solutions to anything, about ambulance response times, which is our own local agency issue, no people, or burnt out people.

So if "In the Know" has solutions, please state them here. I for one would love to hear what was suggested and disgarded. This was all hashed out through worthless treads many times.

These things are not unique to our valley area, listen to other counties radio systems, they are all having the same problems, no people.

Oh, and by the way. The reason fire departments get to the scene faster, one reason. They answer the alarm and go. Some EMS Vol. I know just sit and disregard the alarm, and let it "roll" to the next agency.

Besides, your talking numerous ems calls per day, per agency. Fire calls, a few a month.

i am not saying its not good work..its only as good as the people..used to work at ilion hospital where i heard:
"if you are any good at it why not get paid for it??

He can't control how long it takes for an ambulance to go to a call you idiot. The 911 center just dispatches the ambulance they don't drive them.. Complain to your ambulance board

summer taint

didnt you just post about the evils of guns?? shouldnt
you be telling the police to turn in their murderous weapons of hate and use something like spagetti to control crime?..you seem to be on both sides here..worried about others safety yet ready for us all to die at the hands of criminals..AND TO SAY ALL ARE GREAT BECAUSE THEY HOLD SOME POSTION IS ??????? wierd thinking to say the least..oh what a wonderful world is is in the mind of the inexperienced..to be young and idealistic again.

i do not believe i was congratulating the police on their use of weapons, and i don't know too many firefighters, or ems personnel that carry weapons. some, like you, believe that if both sides are equally armed, that the world is a safer place. i believe that if no sides are armed, the world would be a safer place.

"In the Know", what did Vandawalker do, piss in your Wheaties and now your out to get him? Maybe he told you that you couldn't carry 3 portable radios?

Only a moron would think the county controls how long it takes an ambulance to get to a scene.

When he has meeting to bring out new ideas, they only get about three or four people. Might want to look in your own back yard for solutions.

if no sides were armed you would still die..look up THE SKY IS FALLING.
two buildings do not exist in new york city because of ideas like yours..when you go to sleep at night ask yourself if you will be next..and you shouldnt have to congratulate the police to use your power and knowledge to get them to see the folly of carrying those murderous weapons..GERMS KILL MORE THAN GUNS OR BOMBS. you have a big job ahead,,get some sleep. you'll need it
