You're right. This really should be looked into. Yes there was a big grant, but also the village paid a portion and village workers did work too. I drove by many times and saw them. Good point also about the SUV's for police vehicles? For a tiny village?
You can get 2 cars for the price of 1 SUV. In today's financial climate we have to do more with less, and that means buying two cars instead of 1 truck. The fact that Malone would even ask for an SUV shows he either lacks the basic managerial skills to be a police chief, or simply doesn't care. From what I've seen, the answer is most likely both. He and Mark Ainsworth both need to go.

Unfortunatly by the time they go it will be toooo late. Don't forget Katie Nichols, Mandy Viscomi, and the list goes on.

Now the Mayor is back peddling and saying a control board is not necessary. He is in the process of putting the budget together. Really? How is he going to pay the county the $2.6 million it owes them over the workmens comp lawsuit that was annouced yesterday? Let me guess, another long term bond? They bonded for $2 million for the sewer project for 39 years! They also bonded fo 2 new police vehicle. You have got to be kidding me. We should all demand a control board before it is too late, if it is not already. Demand answers! I am soooo pissed off.

When's the next meeting? We should contact as many residents and business owners as we can to be there. Maybe that reporter from the paper too. It can be done and our voices can be heard if we take action as a group.

I'm sure what Ainsworth said was taken out of context, just like Tangorra's comments about Remington.

Then you don't pay attention to what goes on in our once beautiful little village. When has our Village Board brought in a new business? When have they done any marketing to attract people to the village? Have you ever talked with any of the Board members to get their ideas? Can they even give you any ideas? This is exactly what the heart of the article is saying. They are trying their best, but they're outdated and lack innovation and are probably in way over their heads at this point. Things aren't the way they used to be and our village needs to be able to change too. It's not business as usual for the good old boy network.

How can our mayor say its not there job to market our village. Then what is his job? Raise our taxes? He and the board do nothing for Main Street except bash the current businesses for their paint jobs?

School merger has nothing to do with the mismanagement of this village. Highly over paid employees with great benefit packages are killing us. We would be better off with a volunteer fire department the village cant afford this anymore. Enforce codes start writing the fines generate the revenue and clean the town up. there is so much more to be done.

Here's another idea: force the college to pay their false fire alarm fees. And also charge the stores for picking up all the shopping carts. Make a shopping cart impound lot and charge per cart when the stores come to retrieve them. And what about codes fines. Start writing tickets. Everyone is too comfortable at their jobs. Maybe the state coming in would be a good thing. No favorites to protect and no favors.
The stores do pay for cart pick up. Or we could just start crippling the losers that push them home.

Don't worry when Mohawk gets stuck with higher taxes when the arms is gone Ilion will thank you for paying their bills. Live the false dream and when the state cuts the aid again at least two bankrupt schools will be on bankrupt school.

Hello everybody,

I am the reporter who wrote the story in the Observer-Dispatch about the Herkimer Village Mayor saying they MIGHT have to consider bringing in the control board. I want to emphasize that he said might, and that is exactly what was printed in Monday's story. I stand by the comments he made to me in regard to this matter.

For anyone who may have information or would be willing to comment about the state of the village's finances, please contact me at mfries@uticaod.com.

I look forward to speaking with you!

I tried so hard to help the village. The IDA has managed the Quackenbush site and let Ward take care of that. We have a wonderful portfolio that markets all our wonderful empty business parks. Let's no forget the great deal and grants we give bars . Now we have the ARC buys up more property in the village and takes it off the tax rolls. but let's face it they have a great business on main street now. And we also put Dom Frank on our board so he can be sure get even more deals for the ARC. So don't blame us. Blame the village for all the tax exempt property and blame the village because they are fighting the county to block the P&C site becoming the jail and tax exempt. OH wait you want us to take the $800,000 Bono offered and think that will save us. do you have any idea what the sewer access and demand will cost the village. show up at a meeting and learn. Come to the IDA..oh wait, I just quit for greener pastures and I'm not telling you why! Guess!

If Ilion has all this money why are they so desperate to merge? Sounds like Cosmo's greed and the blood suckers called teachers with their greedy union.
