First of all let me say that most people don't burn trash in the Village. The people who have fires in the Village burn wood. These same people use things like a fireplace or other contained object to burn the fire in. They set around the fire on a cool summer night and relax with friends. Open burning if you look at the law is OPEN NON CONTAINED - OPEN BURNING OF LEAVES AND TRASH. With the high price of fuel lets get real people are staying home more and if you don't get invited to set near your neighbors fire in the backyard then move. What better way to get to know the person who lives next to you. We have more to worry about in this area than someone enjoying there back yard.

unfortunately, the 10% of people that like to burn garbage have jeopardized it for all...let's face it, a garbage bag is $ 4.00 ?....but keystone light is $ 6.00/ 12 pack....where in the pecking order does a garbage bag fall ?

Too many laws started by busy body neighbors just looking for a fight or something to complain about. It's no wonder so many people are leaving the region and the state.

Lets go after the 10% that burn garbage not the people who are trying to enjoy their back yard. Lets face it at $4.00 plus a gallon more people will be staying at home. Those people have the right to enjoy their yards as much as the person who wants to complain. Lets face it just like everything else, the person who is making all the noise will get his way and in a year or two will move. Then we all have to live by a law he helped to pass. We then have to live with it as he makes noise someplace else. All I can say is if you don't like it here move to New Hartford - oh ya up there your just a small fish in a big pond. Stop the complaining and let all get along around the camp fire. By the way somebody should look up what the state considers open burning. Its not what you think -- someone on the Village Board should look a little closer before this cost's the Village another lawsuit !!

I would never sue this Village, as a tax payer I would be suing my self !! Look hawever at the money our Mayor has cost us in the past two years !! They are worried about open burning -- what about a Social Host Law, How about protecting our kids with a law that regulates where a sex offender can reside in the Village. With the other communities around us making progress on these laws how long will it be before Ilion becomes a home for the counties sex offenders. Lets face it a person having a small fire in the back yard is not a big problem. Not feeling safe in your own back yard NOW THAT"S A PROBLEM.

I too enjoy a small fire in my back yard , with the cost of gas my family will be home alot more this summer, But lets think were this burning law may lead us to, What if your neighbor objects to the smell of the flowers in your yard ? does that mean we enact a law " no flowers ", your painting your house it smells new law " no painting " . were do it end ? lighten up enjoy life while you can !!!!!!!

Wood smoke is a severe health risk. The EPA estimates that wood smoke is 12 times more carcinogenic than equal amounts of tobacco smoke. When I can smell smoke INSIDE my home from my neighbor's fire pit, I have every right to complain. It's against the law to burn. The last time I checked we don't get to pick which laws we wish to follow.

If I am paying my property taxes, then I should be able to do whatever in my yard. Wether its smoking a cig or roasting marshmellows. This world is full of cancer toxins and if you are that concerned about it then I suggest you build a bubble around your home and live there. I can also guarantee that Remington Arms Index Plant is probably about 1000 times more likely to cause cancer than a bomb fire but the village approved that and now years later there has been over twenty residents that have lived up in that area that now have cancer. Five who have since passed. Thats what the village should start looking into. How toxic is that plant for us to be breathing in everyday? Not to mention the threats from Remington Arms to past employees to keep their mouth shut or they would be out of a job!!!!

Jim...you're an idiot. Move back to the city where you can smell your neighbors sweaty arm pits and leave the people who want to enjoy their back yard alone. Either that or start enjoying life....you must be a lonely miserable person.

Hey Jim the last time I checked we do get to choose which laws we follow. I am sure you pick and choose what laws you break or follow every day! I suppose it all boils down to which ones you break and get busted for. Meanwhile back at the ranch Tonto was painting Silver aluminum.

Tonight's the big nite! Open pit fire, footlong dogs, marshmallows, grahmcrackers, Hershey's and ice cold draught beer. It doesn't get any better than that!
