Although we are being told to merge or lose sports, they are promising us alpine skiing, building an Olympic size pool, an Ice hockey rink, and putting together a rifling team. I guess that won't cost very much.

Within two years the stated objectives, policies and procedures to achieve them will be thrown out the door. The State aid if it comes at all will be exhuasted in salaries and building expansions.

Bill- I heard that if the merger goes through
not only will they build an Olympic size pool
and an ice hockey rink, but the next Olympics
would be in Herkimer County. I also really
like the idea of having a "rifling team";
actually it would be a rifle team. After all,
Remington Arms is probably the largest employer
in the valley so a rifle team certainly makes
sense. I'm also pushing for a domed football
stadium so I don't have to stand out in the
rain and the cold to watch a game. I can't
wait for the merger to pass!

Free ice-cream for everyone!!! Full scholarships to the college or university of your child's choice. Or, if they want to play pro sports, we can do that too. Merging the schools will be all things to all people and will solve all of the problems in the Valley.

Why is eveything we hear about the merger only how great it is going to be? Why do we not hear even one negative thing about the merger? Everything cannot be positive. I can think of many negative things about the merger. Unfortunately I think the outcome of the vote is already a done deal - it is going to pass by a landslide.
Let me ask - Are the administrators at Frankfort calling all the parents and telling them that their kids have no hope? No - The kids at Frankfort and their school will make out just fine. The kids at Herkimer, Ilion, and Mohawk would make out fine with no merger too. There's a reason people live here in the small villages of the Valley- and our kids being able to attend one of our small Valley schools is one of them.
I realize I will be ripped for my opinion but no one seems to be speaking out for the other side.

And if you believe these promises, I've got a beautiful bridge for sale too. It just hasn't been built yet. But once it is built, it will take you where ever you want to go....Kinda like the promises from the Friends of the Merge are promising.

I wouldn't bet on that landslide win. If you listen, many people who voted yes the first time have now changed to a no, and there were many people who didn't vote the first time who are coming out to vote NO! This might be interesting vote just don't think it is a done deal.

Name calling? Really? I guess this is the kind of thing we can expect from proponents of the merger.

I voted no the first time and plan to do the same this time NO F_ING merger is posted in my yard how about yours. Im sorry but I am not one of the elite residents from the valley so my chilren will get an even worse education than they already do. the treatment will be worse and the one on one that you beg for now for our children will be obsolet. But,hey lets give the sup's even more money to do nothing.

Merger is just smoke and mirrors. When take three small problems and turn it into one big problem what's next? If I had school aged kids I wouldn't want them in that toilet you call Ilion. You wont save money in taxes it will just be a one year break then watch the tax rate go through the roof. Don't believe all the false promises they tell you. How many presidential candidates promise you everything and it never happens same thing here.
No rocket science here.......there is no private business in the world that can afford to run a school district in every valley town. You do not see Walmart, Aldi's, or Hannaford with a store in every village. Guess what, you cannot afford it in the public sector either. It is not going to stop at schools either...at some point you are going to have to share fire and police services. In fact, you already do.

We have to get the structural costs aligned with the revenue. We have to get these valley schools off the bottom half of the state performance curve, primarily because the available funds are spent on structure you no longer can afford or have the students for. Unfortunately, we also have too many unrealistic about how much it costs to run a school, or anything else for that matter. That requires looking beyond Exit 29-31 on the Thruway, which is not "elitist", but a reality check on what your kids are going to need to flourish and how they stack up. Will the merger be the instant oatmeal solution to everything ? No, there will be bumps. But in the end, we have to be more efficient with tax dollars, we have to provide more, updated course selections, and we have to re-organize how we are going to do this.

But merging the schools is not the answer. If they're not being fiscally managed well now, simply merging does not correct the inefficiencies. It's not even a band-aid. It's a bigger problem waiting to happen.

And the 'promises' being made are far short of guaranties...it's all built on speculation of what state aid will be provided and whether or not there will be a sufficient change in fiscal management.

The merger is NOT the answer.

In Tangoras letter he said they are out of options. The simple fact is the schools cost to much. Pay and Benefits make up more than 60% of the budget in Ilion. Just look at the salaries and then add another 20K in benefits for 180 days per year. There are many young folks coming out of college looking to teach. There is a great chance for a do-over but with people running the show with out any "real" world experience, it is doubtful any real cost savings will happen.

I hope you are right and it's not a landslide win. All I ever see and hear out in public, on TV, and in the newspaper is how great the merger is going to be. Are there really alot of people out there that are against the merger and are going to vote no? I hope so, but I don't hear anything from them.

The reason you don't hear from them is simple. We are fed up with people trying to shove down our throats the reasons why we should vote yes. We are sick of hearing only the positives of the merger and never hearing all the negatives that go with it. The whole committee and all the followers are one-sided so why bother anymore. I for one will just walk into the booth and vote no. Should it pass I know the options for my children and I know they won't attend the merged district.
