Hey dumb fk, Herkimer is screwed this year over a 1 million shortfall. Ilion and Mohawk will be receiving over 4 million "a year" for the next five years.

There goes your two year bullshht.

The Remington's property tax assessment is less than 1% of the tax base. Remington's school tax is about $50,000 in a district with a $40 million budget. It's a fart in the wind.

DO your Homework people! C Tangorra does not have to get voted in. NYS Merger law states the existing Superintendent in a meged district has "property rights" to the position. The New board must pay him whatever is owed under his current contract (2 or 3 yrs I think - so over 300k) and still hire another Supt. Theat would be a careless, foolish move for a new Bd of Ed, so it will never happend. Cos KNOWS the job is his. which has been his main motivation from DAY ONE! IS ANYONE CONCERNED OVER REMINGTON ARMS FUTURE AND HE EFFECT ON MOHAWK'S TAX BASE????

Not all of that is school taxes. Someone else posted that if remongton closes Ilion will be a ghost town, hate to tell you that not everyone that works there is FROM ILION! The entire Valley will be a ghost town if they close! And where will all the Herkimer and Frankfort kids find jobs when they can't get the same educational opportunites that the merger district offers

Maybe the vote should wait until we find out about Remington if Remington goes what families will be left for a merged district

Remington's future really has nothing to do with giving our kids a quality education! If anything, the uncertainty surrounding Remington Arms should make us want to give these kids everything we can so that they have a better chance to succeed. Or should they instead just stick with status quo and only hope for a factory job and nothing more?

The reality is these families will still be here even if Remington chooses to leave. Sad fact is we are in an area that many people won't have the means to just pack up and leave. We don't live in a huge seller's market here so I don't forsee too many houses actually selling.

Fact is we need to worry more about what the kids will have in the future rather than what us older folks currently have (Remington, etc). Remington can leave at any point, gun laws or not, so how about we focus on giving our kids every educational advantage so they won't have to one day worry about the same things that we, the adults, now do?

If we merge and then the Arms leaves, the merger money will not change. We will have the same money with fewer kids. We may be able to consolidate further, provide more and have the money last longer.

First of all this is not true. Second, if it were true Herkimer and Frankfort wish they had a 200k problem.

Remington's property tax assessment is less than 1% of Ilion's 25 million dollar tax base. If the merge Remington's school tax (about $50,000) in a district with a $40 million dollar budget is less than a 1/2%. It's not an issue.

Also, when a property owner does not pay their school taxes the school district is reimbursed by the county. If they remain unpaid, the county bears that burden, not the school. So, Herkimer County pays whether the districts are merged or not. So again it's not an issue.

Herkimer has the least amount of programs/opportunity to hold a young persons interest. 30 out of a 100 drop out of herkimer yearly.
When those 30 losers melt back into the community every year it creates a major financial problem for all of us and it's a vicious cycle. Herkimerís drop out rate is the worst in the valley and Herkimer has been put on notice by the state.

In the late 1990s, Ilion had about 2,100 students. Since th 90's enrollment has dropped throughout the valley. The combined Mohawk-Ilion district would have around 2,400 students. Chances are, if enrollment continues to decline the combined district could be the same size Ilion used to be (2,100) in about 10yrs and if the Arms leaves it will happen sooner. What's the point? We will have a much more adequately funded system.

If it doesn't matter if Remington leaves Ilion, then why are the legislators so concerned about the state of the county if they leave? Why is the mayor so concerned? Obviously it IS going to have an impact on real estate and taxes or these guys won't be going nuts all over the news. Seems whoever you are you are trying to spin the situation in your favor. County isn't going to have the money to bail everyone out...do some math buddy.

Hey loser, every county is in on the hook for school tax that goes unpaid by a property owner. Just a side note, our county is in the black and in great shape. Also the Arms is going nowhere.

Please pick out a point I made and tell me where I'm wrong.

The local economy is bad now and that's why we are having problems and need to merge. Are you saying if the economy gets worse we don't need to merge? You do the math dumbazz.
