Well the village leaders did it again, giving the owner yet another loan to open a burrito shack on main st. Thats 30000 dollars invested in an unopened business. The so called owner claoms he will hire 3 full time employees but not sure when or if he will open. When will our so called leaders stop linong the pockets of their friends and family with taxpayer dollars.? My prediction is yes they will open and close within 6 months and herkimer villagr and ida will havr squandered another 30000 dollars of taxpayer money

Don't worry. If they needed both loans of a measly $15000 each it means they had no money of their own left, they have nothing left on their credit cards, the banks didn't even want to consider them, and they will not make it past the first year because employees cost money and the owners can't be in two places at once to try to keep the Utica and Herkimer locations open after their initial funds are depleted. But hey, at least Herkimer will have a couple of commercial grills and a deepfryer after repossessing them, and these can be used at the Herkimer Days. I applaud the IDA and the board for wanting to help bring in businesses, but in most local small businesses $15000 doesn't get you past the first few months, especially if you have no money of your own. This only allowed for a temporary business which will give a landlord temporary rent money and will give temporary jobs. Better than nothing though, I suppose.

Just keep listening to that Griffith guy. He's a misguided looser who talks a good game but is a total looser. He's clueless. I know his past. I agree with a previous poster. Grant the loan. Restaurant equipment would be a good investment for the village after the business fails. The cops and firefighters can use it to make more donuts.

At my job I started at minimum. For fast food as a basic shift supervisor $9 is great to start off around here. I make more now or I would be applying for this job. The idea is after time the better a worker you are the more you will make. A lot of people now want something for nothing. If you work hard any boss will reward you. If boss doesn't then she will lose you to someone else.

What? Avoid taxes? That's the stupidest thing I ever heard of. A business owner either pays payroll taxes and workers comp for those hours and runs a legit business, or they pay more income taxes. You see, payroll expenses and paying employees is tax deductible. Employees who pay under the table have less payroll costs to deduct and have to pay more income taxes. If you pay legit, you can deduct all these costs from your income taxes and you pay less income taxes or get a bigger refund - and you won't pay fines nor go to jail. Which will it be. You will have to pay either way. Pay more income taxes or pay more payroll costs. Choose.
