How many more immigrants can Utica absorb financially? No I'm not a bigot- but come on isn't there a saturation point. The valley has been economically depressed for years, not just since 2008. There aren't even enough jobs for the people who were born here. You can be as "tolerant and welcoming" as you want, but how can all of these people support themselves? It's not a sin to ask the question, however, it may be politically incorrect.

The immigrants are brought in for their government money to fund your police and fire department. Just look at it. How many non immigrants move to utica each year? I would bet the number is very close to zero.

I wonder what the average income of a proud new utica citizen is? I guess it's whatever the government is paying them. Lol

Very concerned where these people are expected to work. If there is no work the negative influences move in very quickly.

United States Government Accountability Office
Report to Congressional Requesters

REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT
Greater Consultation with Community Stakeholders Needed

July 2012
GAO-12-729

http://www.gao.gov/assets/600/592975.pdf

The United States admits 56,000 refugees EVERY YEAR.

While refugees add richness and diversity to our society, they also have a significant impact on the communities in which they live, particularly in cases where relevant state and local stakeholders are NOT consulted before refugees are resettled.

Advance consultation is important because stakeholders need time to PLAN so that they can properly serve refugees when they arrive, and because their input on the number of refugees to be resettled can help communities avoid reaching a CRISIS POINT.

Without effective strategies for consultation, communities will CONTINUE to struggle to meet refugees' needs.

This will negatively affect BOTH refugees AND their communities and would likely deter full immigrant integration into US SOCIETY.

You are right on target.

Last year at budget an Oneida County legislator (Brian Mandryck -R of Lee I think) did study to find out how much welcoming these newcomers cost the county annually. What they found was that after the initial inflow of federal tax dollars was depleted, they cost plenty in social service and healthcare programs.

In a perfect world we could and should welcome everyone. By and large we are all immigrants here at our roots. It comes down to a question of how much we as taxpayers can afford though.

The 2010 Census showed Utica's population grew a little bit over what it was in 2000. That increase was due to the influx of immigrants.

A welcoming city for welfare, immigrants, and every other low life imaginable. There is no tax base,it won't work unless you get people to work. All you see in the paper is how the refugee center keeps bringing them in,who's paying for them?Oh that's right the few people that actually work in the Mohawk Valley.I'm glad all the politicians sleep well at night. This state is in big trouble, can you say revolution.

How about taking these people up North, and set them up in farming ? The Amish make it go, why can't other Nationalities ? Get them going, set them up with a "little" money, and let them prosper. Hell it keeps them off the roles, and they have a chance at the American dream.

Thank you, thank you. You are the first person who believes me. I do correspond with the people who like to play games. I am house bound and this is my entertainment. Also I use to keep my brain sharp. if you have a parent or Grandparent that is isolated, I think you will understand.
