Talk about covering their ass: At 55 miles an hour route 5 is still one of the most dangerous roads in the area. This is not the first time Herkimer police have killed someone with an unnecessary car chase and to have NY State Trooper Captain Lincoln make it sound like 80 miles an hour was not excessive considering traffic was fairly light is truly an insult to anyone who knows this road and to all Herkimer County Residents. If that was Captain Lincolns mother I donít think he would be so blasť about it. Common sense tells you when you get to schuyler corners going 80mpr someoneís going to die so why not stop chasing and try out their car radio or the cell phone they are always on to have Utica police put up a road block. They have choices but when you know your not going to be held accountable they could give a damn what happens. It makes me sick to my stomach when I listened to Captain Lincoln give such a lame excuse for the death of an innocent person. 6180

How do you know hpd didn't stop chasing? The obviously weren't following tbat close if they weren't in the accident. You people would be complaining if he would've let this person go. Speeding in a school zone with a stolen car pushing his pregnant gf out. You'd feel a lot different if this scumbag hurt one of your kids that were walking by the high school as he was speeding through. Until you know every detail shut the hell up.

He was told to back off and he didn't. The troopers were not with him, they came after.

DA Jeff Carpenter will not charge him he is george aneys boy and even if carpenter did do you think corrupt judge john crandall will do anything, I don't think so. No accountability for any of them, they do what they want when they want.

You can't chase someone unless they're fleeing. Fleeing the police is a crime. Place the blame where it belongs. With the criminal and no where else.

But you end the chase when the public is put in danger. You issue a WARRANT to arrest the suspect for those crimes when you catch him later on. The cop is part to blame for not ending the chase.

See, if you did the job or knew anything about it you would know that just because a person is driving a car does not mean the the license plates are registered to them. This criminal may have just stolen a car and kidnapped the girl and you expect them to just give u and get a warrant? For who? The owner of the vehicle that may be away on vacation or at work and didn't know that this criminal took the vehicle and kidnapped a young girl. As far as I know, police everywhere in new york state are trained in the police academy in vehicle pursuits and high speed chases. They even get into their cars and practice them. Now why do they teach this if they can never use it. In case they go to another state and work? I say the chase was justified as the crime happens. Some times police don't have the pleasure of just quiting and trying to find reason later. This happens all over the world and not just in herkimer. Do some research. But I guess you would be happier if the guy struck patrolman wheet and killed him or if he did stop and get out and fire a weapon. Yea, called utica pd to set up a road block and just give up. The criminal turns down a road and runs away never to be heard of again. Then you're loser as will be on here saying. "Herkimer police let another criminal get away?" Your opinion is worthless!

No actually you are worthless. The girl jumped out of the car so they had an eyewitness as to who the driver was and what he looked like. The police continuing the chase got someone killed and there will be a lawsuit over it, guaranteed.

BTW, the two clowns who robbed the First Source in Herkimer got away and were caught a few days later without a car chase using something called POLICE WORK to figure out who they were and where to find them. Wow, not a hard concept to grasp, except for dimwits like you.

the research shows police chases end in injuries and death more often than not.

What part of safe is 80mph on that stretch of route 5s or any other road in Herkimer County? State and local police have no problem using their cell phones while driving any other time why not use the car radio or cell phone when you see the speed get out of control. Herkimer police chased him from Herkimer to where the accident happened (HOW MANY MILES FROM START TO FINISH) so how many miles do police chase a car 80mph before they use common sense back off and call ahead. Everyone put your high top boots on cause the PR people will surely be spreading it thick.

Jodi is a great man and officer. Making a split second decision must be very difficult especially in that situation. No one really knows every detail of this incident so how can you judge? As of right now the chase was deemed reasonable. Who are we to cut down an officer for attempting to stop a criminal. The accident is the fault of the FELON!!! Always will be! Prayers to the families that have to live with a FELONS stupidity!

Split second decision? The chase went on for 7 MILES before the crash. That is a looooooong split second.

Should have stopped to pick up the girl who jumped out of the car and radioed the plate and description of the car. Sooner or later they'd have found him.
