It's so easy to place blame when you are unwilling to give up anything for yourself, yet expect the kids' things to be taken away so that you can continue with your gilded paychecks and benefits packages. There is something wrong with that. This time around everyone should share the burden. Teachers, administrators, unions, taxpayers, and then if still necessary, the kids. But don't point the finger at just one of these mentioned groups and ask them to give something up without anyone else giving something up as well. What is wrong with that. Greedy bastrds.
You really are stupid! Herkimer already has some of the lowest paid teachers in the state. A new teacher makes approximately 33,000 and has 5 years to complete a masters degree which costs about 15,000 to 20,000. You want him/her to take a voluntary cut of about $7,000-10,000 by cutting teacher salaries and making them pay most of their health care? Are you insane? Who is going to work for $23,000 and pay for a masters in Herkimer when he or she can make a better income in any other district in the state? Do you care at all about the education of this district's children? Check out this site to see how poorly paid your teachers already are:

Loser, contracts are up for negotiations this coming year. Maybe YOU should read. Bring the music teachers' salaries from $65,000 a year to $58,500 a year. Do a voluntary 10% paycut on all employees with the promise that they can keep all their jobs. They will survive. Then also negotiate that any increases in benefits premiums will be shared 50/50. So if health insurance premiums go up $100 a month the following year the employee has to pay $50 more and the school has to pay $50 more. That's real life, and if someone wants to leave and go to work at another school that still thinks we live in fairy tale land, then let them. There are so many people with teaching degrees just waiting for a chance at a teaching job. Also, do the teacher evaluations so we can finally get rid of some dead weight, and get that extra state aid while we're at it. But this all requires balls from the school board to do some tough negotiations. If they don't want to fight for this and don't want to fight for what's right and what needs to be done then it really is time for them to stop using the board as a social club and just resign. It's not about forcing Albany to give us more money, it's about maximizing what we have and stop giving away what we don't have. Just like responsible people do at home or like successful businesses do when they pay bills. Loser, if by now you don't understand that then you will never understand and it's not worth explaining to you further. You are just too dumb.
Stupid (you really are aptly named), state aid is not given out based on teacher evaluations. The state will not reward Herkimer for being a school under review (performing poorly), but we will be required to spend more money to remediate poor performance. This will mean more unfunded mandates (classes for students who failed the tests). If the teachers get bad evaluations under Race to the Top, the school district will be in trouble. If we cut pre-K and kindergarten, our students will have greater disadvantages, but maybe that's a fair trade for sports in your opinion. You really don't understand how this works. You don't get to evaluate teachers, and the BOE can only cut those things that are not state mandated or contractually obligated. That doesn't leave a lot. People went nuts when the business courses were cut, but the state doesn't require them. You act as though only those who voted against the merger cared about the students, and that is a ridiculous idea. The yes voters cared about learning more than sports, and that is what's wrong with your perspective.

cant believe some of you are still going on abt this, go to a board meeting, ranting and raving on here is not going to do much for you or the kids.. regardless how it turned out they need to go forward and fix the problems., not continue pointing fingers, that solves nothing, and if the people on the board cannot find another way then need to step down and get new people in there that have a clue and that have children in the school. the BOE is made up of retired people with no kids in school. i want someone who has children in the school and have their best interest at heart.

1) Our kids are stupid
2) The parents don't care and are uninvolved
3) It's mandated by the state
4) Our teachers are the lowest paid in the state
5) The teacher's union is too powerful to negotiate with

Your parents met at a family reunion. Your eyes being too far apart was your first clue.

Being mandated by the state and being among the lowest paid would be a fact not an excuse.

It's also one of the cheapest housing areas. All jobs here are lower paid than in downstate. It all evens out in the end, and actually after everything is factored in they ARE better off here. That's why they stay so long. So what's your point

Herkimer can't compete now because of it's taxes and National Grid. Of course Main St. is a wonderful draw.

To live in Ilion or Mohawk is financially the smart move now.

If azzhools could fk with our teachers pay it wouldn't be worth living or teaching in Herkimer. You guys just don't get it.
