According to sources, the suspect that was arrested for this week's robbery at the Herkimer New York "Smoker Friendly" smoke shop has a multiple felony history. Why was this alleged repeat felony offender able to freely walk the streets time after time after time? Does the NATIONAL media and other outlets have to get involved to embarrass those in charge to finally get something done? That's usually the way it has to happen to finally get something done from the people that took some empty oath to protect the public. What's next for this guy once they slap him on the wrist yet again?

Jen, I get it. "The Einstein Halloween Mask Robber: Not So Smart"

lol! That's great! Now let's hope they get this career felon off the streets permanently before it's too late. Why is it so difficult for the system to say "enough's enough!" and quit babying these violent offenders? Maybe they just don't care until it affects them personally. If this guy robbed a donut shop, you'd see them git 'er done though, wouldn't you?

yeah i saw all the wktv comments about the Main St smoker friendly store getting robbed on facebook under wktv news page. a lot of people who posted on facebook know the suspect and are surprised that he got away with so many felonies with so little jail time, many times. hey too bad we cant all get away with multiple felonies, including some violent offenses, with a slap on the wrist and practically a pat on the back. the authorities must have a special place in their heart for this offender. its suspicious. no wonder the town is becoming unlivable. get new people in there with some cahones that stand up to these career criminals and get the lazy incompetent dead wood the hell out of there!!

1) check out arrested offenders here:

haha, that is not a database for anybody who has been arrested. It is a database for people that have been or are incarcerated.

You belong in jail just for air reserved for smart people.

I am not trying to defend anybody, but the distinction above doesn't matter. It makes my heart glad that some people appreciate that the police are doing a diligent job at removing violent criminals off the streets. As someone said before, it is a thankless job and I feel they deserve more credit. I also feel more members of the public should pitch in and help.

Police, attorneys, judges, parole officers, probation, etc must follow certain guidelines regarding the arrest, processing, sentencing, incarceration, and oversight of convicted offenders. The process is different from the old days. It is most certainly not as easy as the general public thinks it is.

There are many proud, hardworking men and women in law enforcement that do indeed care to clean up the streets. Most are not indifferent to human suffering, which has been a nagging, unsubstantiated opinion that has been implied here by several people. For example, the sentence that a convicted defendant receives is not for the police to decide, which should be evident to all, but some well meaning members of the public still hold the police responsible for a convicted violent repeat offender receiving a "light" sentence over and over.

The police are doing all they can. Not many people could perform the service they provide, and it can be very frightening to have a loved one make their living in law enforcement. If anyone reading this feels that repeat violent offenders are being pampered, then they have some letters to write and some phone calls to make. Complaining on Topix about the police isn't going to change things for the better, although I do agree it's dreadful what has happened to society in the past few decades. It's everyone's responsibility to be a good citizen for the betterment of all. Thank you, Katherine.

I agree with most of what you said, Katherine. Sounds like you've "been there". But hopefully the perp in question finally gets a judge with some compassion for the people he took an oath to serve. You know, the promises he made when he ran for office? Yes, I know it's crazy. An elected official doing their job and keeping their campaign promises? They should throw this useless con in the clink for life before he finally kills someone and gets away with that too. Unless he already has. Sharmal (sp?) above was probably right about his relationship with people in the right places. I'd bet money on it.
